Hospital ICU Full, So Brazilian Doctor Kills Patients To "Clean Up Clutter" According To Prosecutors

According to prosecutors in the Brazilian town of Curitiba, Dr. Virginia Helena Soares de Souza decided her hospital ICU was to full and ordered the deaths of at least 7 patients in order to clean up the "clutter" and make room for new more worthy patients.

Officials say she was able to accomplish the feat by altering oxygen levels to the point patients died of asphyxiation, increased pain medications to the point of over dose unplugged medical aid equipment patients were on to survive.

Explosion At N.C. Hospital Kills 1, Injures 3 More

There has been an explosion at a Durham North Carolina hospital overnight killing one and injuring three others.

The incident happened at about 2:15am on the sixth floor of the Durham Regional Hospital in north-central North Carolina according to Katie Galbraith, hospital chief of operations.

The three injured had been on ventilators when the explosion happened and were promptly taken to the hospital's emergency department and checked and then transferred to ICU.

Escape Prisoner From Winter Park Hospital Carjacks And Elderly Man And Flees With Gun

Winter Park, Fla. -

A prisoner being treated at Winter Park Hospital managed to overpower a corrections officer who was guarding him and steal his gun, then escapes and steals a car from across the street.

The escaped prisoner, 24-year-old James Cornell West, was being held on burglary charges and had been arrested the day before.

After his escape, West ran across the street from the hospital and carjacked an elderly man using the gun he had just stolen from the corrections officer. Winter Park police soon spotted West in the stolen car and began pursing him.

Breast Implant Scam At Nellis AFB In Las Vegas Leads To Guilty Plea

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto has announced that 31-year-old Shanita Flax has pleaded guilty to a breast implant scam while working as a civilian contractor at the Nellis AFB Hospital in Las Vegas.

The government covers breast implants in cases of medical necessity such as after surgery from cancer or other legitimate medical needs but does not cover implants for just cosmetic reasons.

Man Accused Of Impersonating A PA And A Cop Arguing For Interrogation To be Thrown Out

Kissimmee, Fla. -

Matthew Scheidt, the man who law enforcement says impersonated a Physician's Assistance, PA, and a police officer in South Florida is arguing to have his interrogation thrown out.  Scheidt was 17-years-old at the time and is now 18.

His defense lawyer is challenging the admissibility of the interrogation since he was a minor at the time.

Many Florida Hospitals Rank Low In National Ratings, Cent FL Regional Hosp In Sanford Ranked Most Unsafe

In a new report by Consumer Reports, many of Florida's hospitals ranked below the national average in terms of quality of care, risk of infection, overall health, and mortality rates.

About half of the hospitals in Florida fell below the national average, and the dubious title of "most unsafe hospital in Florida" fell to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Florida.

Supreme Court Upholds Obama's Healthcare Law In Surprise Swing Vote By Chief Justice Roberts

In a ruling that is sure to continue debates across the country, the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld Obama's healthcare law, with Chief Justice John Roberts providing the surprise swing vote in a 5-4 decision. The courts four liberal justices were joined by Roberts in upholding the heart of the law, allowing the government to impose a fine on those who do not purchase health insurance.

Protestors and supports of the law being decided by the Supreme Court were out in force in front of the Supreme Court chanting back and forth what they believe is right.

Orlando VA hospital delayed to Summer 2013

The much needed Orlando Veterans Association hospital will be longer then expected. The 1.2 million square foot facility being built in Lake Nona was set to open in October 2012 but has been pushed to Summer 2013 and even that does not have a firm date. Hospital officials blame multiple factors such as mistakes in the original plan, changes with medical equipment, and contractor issues. When finally completed the 300 bed hospital will serve the 400,000 central Floridian veterans which is the most active in the nation lacking a hospital.

Woman's Face Catches Fire At Okaloosa Medical Center During Routine Outpatient Process

A woman, Kim Grice, had her face catch fire during a routine procedure to remove a cyst at the Okaloosa Medical Center in North Florida. The flash fire event erupted in the surgery room of the facility while Grice was having her outpatient procedure and the fire was limited to her face.

The patient’s mother can’t understand what happened. "I am in shock,” Ann Grice told the Crestview Bulletin. “This is not what happens with a routine outpatient surgery."

Osceola County Charges Teenager Matthew Scheidt of Imersonating a PA, and Practicing Medicine Without A License

Orlando, Fla. -

The State Attorney's office for Orange and Osecola county have filed charges against Matthew Scheidt for impersonating a Physician's Assistant and practicing medicine without a license, both 3rd degree felonies in Florida.

It is not clear yet why Scheidt acted as a PA, which in Florida gives him the ability to see patients, diagnose, and prescribe medicines.

Prosecutors have filed charges in adult court, but have not indicated what sentencing they are looking for.
