List Ranking The Richest & Poorest States For 2011

According to statistics from the US Census Bureau, US Labor Department and the Treasury Department, the median household income in nearly every state dropped for 2011 overall, but the lowest point was in May, after that it started to rise slightly but consistently for the rest of the year.

Most southern states still lag significantly behind their western and northern counterparts for household median income, but the cost of living in the southern states is also lower.

Here's a list of the median income for every state.

1 Connecticut - $64,851
2 New Jersey - $64,777

Number of Kids Born To Unmarried Parents Jumps 83%

Since 2002 the number of new borns being born to unmarried but co-habitating parents has jumped 83%, and woman are waiting longer to have kids, the largest age group now being 30-44 years of age.

Karen Benjamin Guzzo, a sociologist at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio authored the study about cohabitation and fertility after reviewing statistic from the US Census Bureau and the National Center for Health Statistics.
