Tropical Storm Andrea Approaches Florida With Heavy Rains

Miami, Fla. -

Tropical Storm Andrea is roughly 160 miles west of Tampa, Florida moving NNE at 14mph and is expected to make landfall along Florida's Big Bend area. The maximum sustained winds are 60mph.

Heavy rains have already started hitting most of Florida from Fort Myers to West Palm Beach, Orlando, Gainesville and the Tampa area.

After making landfall, Andrea is expected to make its way NE over Valdosta, Georgia and southeast Georgia before moving onto South Carolina.

As Hurricane Season Starts, Possible Storm Expected To Hit Florida On Friday

Miami, Fla. -

June 1st was the start of the hurricane season and forecasters have announced the formation of the first possible storm, Invest 91.

It is currently located in the southern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to hit Florida on Friday, with a chance at developing into something stronger.

Heavy rains are expected throughout the week in much of Florida, including in the Tampa area as well as Orlando and Miami.

Hurricane Season Officially Begins Saturday With An "Extremely Active" Season Predicted

Saturday June 1st marks the beginning of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting an “extremely active” year.

13-20 named storms are predicted with 5-10 becoming hurricanes. Six of those hurricanes are expected to me major hurricanes. Florida has been spared a hit from a hurricane in the past seven years which sets a record.

2013 Hurricane Season Predictions Are Out, We're Going To Have More Hurricanes; Emergency Checklist

Colorado State University climatologist William Gray has released his 2013 annual hurricane predictions and says this year will be busier than normal adding that El Niño is not present this year.

Dr Gray predicts 18 named storms, including nine hurricanes of which, four will be major hurricanes with a category 3 or higher rating.

The El Niño is an atmospheric force of tropical Atlantic wind shears that suppresses the development of tropical storms and hurricanes.

Nor'easter Forces New Evacuations In New Jersey And New York; Airlines Cancel Flights

There have been new rounds of evacuations ordered as a Nor'easter approaches the New Jersey and New York City areas, both hard hit just last week from Hurricane Superstorm Sandy.

The expected storm is expected to bring high winds, rain in coastal areas and snowfall inland and at higher elevations starting today.

Forecasters said Wednesday that the storm will be weaker than expected as its track has shifted more eastwards and offshore.

Still, officials said they are bracing for 50mph winds, and a three foot storm surge in low lying coastal areas.

National Park Service Says 69 Parks Closed or Restricted Due To Damage From Superstorm Sandy

Washington, D.C. -

The National Park Service, a unit of the Department of the Interior, has said that 69 parks are either closed or have limited access and restricted hours due to damage caused from Hurricane Sandy.

The hardest hit areas include New Jersey, New York and West Virginia and the Park Service said they have deployed recovery teams to the parks to clean and make repairs.

Leader of Terrorist Organization Offers Help To Americans Affected By Hurricane Sandy; US Declines

Hafiz Saeed, the leader of a terrorist group, and head of the Defense Of Pakistan Council, has offered help to Americans who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy saying, "We are ready to send food items, medicines and doctors to the U.S. for the people affected by the storm,... America [may] fix bounties on our heads but as followers of the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him), we feel it is our Islamic duty to help Americans trapped in a catastrophe."

New York City Subway Service To Resume Limited Service Today

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that NYC's metro subways, LIRR and other transportation services will resume today and tomorrow in a limited manner. Busses are already operating at full service. New York's subways, trains and buses were suspended due to Superstorm Sandy, many part of the subway system remain flooded and have yet to be examined by engineers to make sure they are safe and functional.
