Suspect In Armed Robbery, Grand Theft Auto, Caught After Car Chase on I-4 Ended With A Crash

Orlando, Fla. -

Police in Orange County and Seminole County arrested 21-year-old Sterling Anthony after they say he robbed a man at the Lemon Tree Condominiums on Lakeway Drive at 5:47am this morning then stole his car. The incident happened just north of Park Central.

According to police, Anthony approached the victim and demanded his money and car keys and took off in the car. He was spotted on John Young Parkway and fled when police attempted to stop him.

Bike Week Starts Off With One Man Dead After Being Killed On His Motorcycle

According to FHP Troopers, 42-year-old Keenan Huff of Brightwood, Va was killed last night on I-4 in Seminole County after a 4-door Saturn car veered out of the center lane and into Huff.

Following the crash, the Saturn fled the scene and FHP officials said they are looking for the driver. Huff was hit again and ran over by a Toyota minivan immediately after being hit and thrown off is motorcycle.

First on the scene was a Lake Mary police officer who's patrol car, with lights flashing, was hit almost immediately by a Volkswagan Jetta.

Long Traffic Delays On I-4 And I-95 Getting To Today's Daytona 500

Daytona, Fla. -

Today is the Daytona 500, and there are long traffic delays on both I-4 and I-95 approaching Daytona.

On I-4, Traffic backups begin eastbound before mile marker 118, SR 44. A 2 hours and 40 minute delay is being reported on I-4 from SR 44 to International Speedway in Daytona.

On I-95, motorist are faring better with minimal traffic delays of about 25 minutes from the north to International Speedway.

FHP has requested drivers not going to the Daytona 500 traveling on I-4 use an alternate route.

I-4 Toll Lanes Approved

Governor Rick Scott and the Legislator have signed off this week on a bill to allow toll lanes on I-4. This would be the first of its kind in Central Florida allowing toll roads on State owned road. The plans would require an investment of 2 billion dollars from the state. The project would overhaul the much congested and often hated roadway that runs through the central region of Florida.

Florida DOT Finishes Work It Hopes Will Make Fairbanks Curve Safer

Orlando, Fla. -

The Florida Dot has finished work that it hopes will make the Fairbanks turn on Interstate 4 safer for motorist. That section of I-4 has seen an outsized number of accidents by locals, truckers and tourists alike, higher than on any other stretch of I-4.

This weekend the Fairbanks curve was repaved again, in the hopes that it will cover up the grooved lines in the concrete that did not match the painted vehicle travel lanes, causing many to go to sharp or to wide.

Fuel Tanker Overturns, Forces I-4 Closure In Polk County

Lakeland, Fla. -

FHP has closed a portion of Interstate 4 eastbound in Polk County after a fuel tanker overturned. Traffic is being diverted to Memorial Boulevard, and the FHP is asking drivers to use the Polk Parkway, tolls have been suspended, making the by-pass free.

According to the FHP, the fuel tanker, driven by Lucius Hamilton Lawrence, overturned after hitting a guardrail on I-4 because the driver had fallen asleep. Lawrence suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He has beencited by the FHP for careless driving.

I-4 Closed At John Young Parkway Due To Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Orlando, Fla. -

Police have closed the I-4 exit ramp at John Young Parkway due to a Fatal motorcycle accident. Reports say a female motorcyclist was riding with a group when she lost control and hit a concrete wall causing her to flip over the wall and land on the roadway below, about 20 feet down.

Westbound traffic has come to a standstill as the interstate remains closed, while eastbound traffic has slowed to a crawl as onlookers pass by the scene.

Florida Black Bear Killed On I-4 After Being Struck By Car

Longwood, Fla. -

A bear has been killed after wandering onto I-4's eastbound lanes and was hit by a car. A Camaro that as being driven by 52 year old Victoria Thompson hit the bear at about 1 a.m. last night and the car had only minor damage. Thompson was not hurt.

So far this year there have been 19 bear incidents in the Orlando metro area of Lake, Osceola, Orange, Seminole and Volusia Counties.

Wildlife experts say as humans expand into areas where wild animals live, the number of incidents will continue to grow.

Suspicious Brush Fires Off I-4 Contained But Still Be Monitored For Possible Closure This Weekend

The brush fires that shut down I-4 east and westbound yesterday are still be monitored but are now also being investigated as suspicious. The blaze yesterday affected 75 acres and caused the interstate to close near the critical attractions areas yesterday. Orange County Fire Rescue reports that there were no lightning strikes or controlled burns yesterday that could have ignited the fire.
All lanes are open as of now however Florida Highway Patrol is keeping a close eye on the situation and depending on the weather there may be road closures this weekend.

Florida Is Key Battleground In 2012 Elections; More People Know About Zimmerman Case Than The Candidates

The I-4 corridor, as it is sometimes called, is once again a key battleground in the upcoming 2012 presidential elections, just like it was over the last few elections. The stretch from Tampa through Lakeland, Orlando and on to Daytona contains a large amount of independent and swing voters in a state that otherwise is largely split evenly between republic and democratic voters.
