Astronauts On Space Station Plan In Space Walk To Fix Amonia Leak

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station will conduct a space walk on saturday to fix an amonia leak. The leak is in a cooling system used by one of the stations large solar arrays that supply power to the station.

On thursday the crew noticed a steady stream of small white frozen amonia flakes from a cooling line outside the station. NASA officials advise that the crew is not in any danger.

SpaceX Dragon Launch Runs Into Trouble 9 Minutes After Liftoff

SpaceX launched one of its Dragon rockets this morning on a resupply mission to the International Space Station, ISS, but ran into problems nine minutes after liftoff.

SpaceX founder Elon Musk said three of the four thrusters did not ignite as planned.

Speaking from the company's Hawthorne, CA mission control, Musk said he wants at least two of the four sets to kick in before the solar panels are extended.

The rocket is due to arrive at the ISS carrying 1 ton of much needed cargo, such as air purifiers and other maintenance gear.

China To Launch Manned Mission To Space This Month, Shenzhou-9 Will Dock With Chinese Space Lab

China may soon join only the U.S. and Russia in launching a manned space flight in mid-June that docks with another craft in space.

Chinese state news agency Xinhua News is reporting that the launch of the Shenzhou-9 crew module will happen around June 17th. The space lab is already in orbit, having been launched last September.

This is China's first attempt at a manned mission to space to dock with an orbiter.

China has been increasing its space and defense budgets by as much as 40% in an effort to gain independence for its own space interests.

Space X Dragon Capsule Makes History By Docking With ISS

History was made today when the privately owned Space X Dragon Capsule was successfully captured by the International Space Stations robotic armed and docked with the station. "We captured the dragon by the tail" station personnel proclaimed today marking the first of many missions by the private company to the ISS. The docking today is looked at to be a beta test with more resupplying missions ahead and eventually manned flight some years later.

SpaceX Succesfully Launches Falcon 9 Rocket To The ISS, Dragon Capsule To Dock In 5 Days

SpaceX has become the first private company to successfully launch a rocket into space, as the Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral at 3:44a.m. SpaceX will now attempt to dock with the International Space Stations, ISS, which if successful, will be another first for a private company.

SpaceX had previously tried to launch but was aborted in the last half second by a computer warning of a small valve problem in one of the nine engines.

Space X Prepares For Rocket Launch May 19 At Cape Canaveral With NASA Contract In Hand

As NASA transitions to supporting a private rocket launch industry, Space X is preparing for its first demonstration launch. Space Exploration Technologies Corp. was awarded a contract by NASA for $1.6 billion to build and launch rockets that can dock with the International Space Station, ISS, and do other payload duties.

International Space Station, ISS, To Be Visible This Week In Central Florida

Cape Canaveral, Fla. -

The International Space Station will be visible this week to most of Central Florida according to NASA officials.

You should be able to see the ISS without binoculars and it will appear as a bright star; however, high powered binoculars will be helpful if you want to see more than light.

It will be visible at about 5:00 a.m. each day this week, and the farther east you can go the better, with the best viewing to be along the east coast of Florida at the Atlantic.

[video] Russian Soyuz Rocket Docks With Space Station with American Onboard

Moscow, Russia -

The Soyuz TMA-22 crew successfully docked with the International Space Station with an American on-board the Soyuz Rocket. Since NASA shut down manned space missions Americans must pay Russia to go into space in a Soyuz Rocket.

The launch was done at Russia's Baikonur launch pad in Kazakhstan.
