Israel Apologizes For Death of Egyptian Police at Border

Israel has apologized to Egypt for the death of Egyptian police who were killed by Israeli gunfire while in pursuit of criminals at the border with Egypt in an incident that happened two months ago.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak issued the apology following a joint investigation between Israel and Egypt saying he needed
“to apologize before Egypt on the deaths of all Egyptian police while carrying out their duties, as a result of gunfire by our (Israeli) forces.”

Israel Accepts Quartet Plan to Resume Peace Talks

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that after consulting with senior Israeli officials, that Israel will accept the Quartet's plan to resume the long troubled peace talks with the Palestinians. Netanyahu expressed reservations with the plan but ultimately accepted it as the best method to go forward saying he knows Israel must compromise in order to achieve peace.

The tension at the U.N. and in diplomatic circles among U.S., Europe, and Russia has grown so thick it can be cut as the stage is being set for Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to ask the U.N. for full membership and statehood, using the 1967 boundaries during this week's U.N General Assembly in New York City.

The United States and Israel oppose this, and the U.S. said it will veto any such move in the Security Council despite worldwide approval by a large majority of nations.
