Now you can put your vacation on layaway at sears, as it brings back the once popular layaway program helping people pay for something they can't afford upfront right now and don't have the credit to charge it.

2006 - Walmart ends its layaway program. Layaway was used for much of the 1900's as a way for people to afford more expensive items by paying over time, and not relying on credit. Easy credit, and a good economy allowed millions to spend on credit instead and the number of those using layaway dwindled to virtually nothing. It was seen an as outdated sales platform used only by a few who could not get a credit card or a prepaid secure credit cards.
