Secretary Clinton Testifies Before Congress Over Benghazi Attack On U.S. Embassy

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton went before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Capital Hill to testify about the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Clinton, in testimony, took responsibility for the State Department's failures while also stating that she did not have direct knowledge of the events as they unfolded.

Clinton also said the State Department will implement all 29 recommendations of a recent review of security and management procedures.

Congressional Hearings Start On Capital Hill over Benghazi Attack

Hearings on Capital Hill have started in the Senate and House Of Representatives over the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya with closed door hearings with intelligence officials from the State Department and the CIA.

Gen. David Petraeus is scheduled to testify before congress on Friday in a solo appearance. Petraeu was originally to testify behind closed doors but resigned last Friday as a growing scandal regarding an affair with Paula Broadwell became public.

President Obama Plans To Nominate U.S. Ambassador To The U.N. Susan Rice To Secretary Of State

The White House has said the President Obama wants to nominate the U.S. Ambassador to the United Stations, Susan Rice, as the next Secretary of State with Obama calling her his "quarterback at the U.N.". The U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. had previously been elevated to cabinet level.

Rice is known for being outspoken and straightforward in talks with officials at the U.N. using undiplomatic language and has won the affection of U.S. officials.

FBI To Get Chance To Question Suspect In Beghazi Libya U.S. Consulate Attack

The FBI will be allowed to question Ali Ani al Harzi, one of the suspects in the consulte killing of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

The FBI became aware of Ali Ani al Harzi because he was posting updates about the attack while it was happening and then fled Libya to Turkey afterwards.

Turkish officials detained al Harzi as he attempted to enter their country at the request of U.S. law enforcement officials and was then transfered to Tunisia, where he is being held.

Muslim Leaders In Egypt Urge Followers To Protest Peacefully

Egypt's leading clerics and Islamic institutions have urged those who protest to do so peacefully.

The Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa and Al Azhar, Egypt's prestigious seat of Sunni learning, have denounced both the anti-Islamic film and a recent cartoon published the French magazine Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly calling them an insult on the Muslim World and have also denounced the violent protests that following and went out of their way to denounce the killing of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Embassy employees as unacceptable.

Secretary of State Clinton has confirmed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith were among the Americans killed were among the Americans killed in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi by Libyian protestors upset by the release of a film about the Muslim prophet Mohammad.

Protestors in Cairo also assault the U.S. Embassy there, briefly being able to take down the U.S. flag and replace it with a black Islamic banner.

Bomb Explodes At U.S. Embassy In Libya In Possible Retaliation For U.S. Drone Killing Of Abu Yahya al-Libi

An improvised explosive device, IED, has exploded outside the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi, Libyia just hours after the U.S. launched a drone strike on Libya terrorist Abu Yahya al-Libi in Pakistan.

Abu Yahya al-Libi was Al-Qaeda's No.2 in command in Pakistan and reported directly to current leader, Egyptian born Ayman al-Zawahiri.
