London Marathon kicks Off With Moment Of Silence For Boston And Black Ribbons

The London Marathon kicked off its annual race with a 30-second moment of silence and many runners and spectators wearing black ribbons to honor those killed and injured in the Boston Marathon bombing.

The London Marathon is the first in the annual series of major races around the world and drew 36,000 runners and about 200,000 spectators along the 26 mile route which starts in Greenwich, crosses Tower Bridge, snakes through the Canary Wharf business district before heading to Big Ben and finally Buckingham Palace.

US Airways To Start New London Heathrow Service From Charlotte, NC

US Airways has reported that it has been awarded a landing slot at London Heathrow airport and will being non-stop service from its hub at Charlotte, NC to Heathrow using an Airbus A330 starting in march 2013.

"We are thrilled to make this announcement and look forward to starting service between Heathrow and Charlotte in March," said US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker. "This new service will augment our existing trans-Atlantic network and provide more choices for customers in markets up and down the east coast."

Terrorist Suspect Abu Hamza al-Masri To be Extradited To The U.S. After Loosing Court Appeal

Britain's highest court has rejected appeals by Abu Hamza al-Masri and four others, Khaled al-Fawwaz, Babar Ahmad, Adel Abdul Bary and Syed Ahsan.

The five have been held in Britain on terrorism related charges since 2004 and had appealed their case to both Britain's highest court and the European Court, both of which denied his appeals. U.K. officials said they plan to put them on a plane "as quickly as possible".

Man Rides Bike From China To Streets Of London To Spread Olympic Spirit

After becoming wrapped up in the Olympics spirit during the Beijing Olympics in 2008, 57-year-old Chen Guanming has rode his 3-wheeled rickshaw bike from China to London to carry the Olympic spirit and its message.

He traveled 86,992 miles over the last two years through 16 countries to make it to London where he has been received by the London people with cheers and admiration and offers of accommodations.

"I'm a big fan of Olympic Games," he told the news organization. "I wanted to come here because I wanted the whole world to support the Olympics and be part of it."

United Flight 130 To London Drops 20,000 Feet Over Atlantic Ocean, Diverts To Canada

A United Airlines flight from Washington Dulles to London, Flight 130, unexpectedly dropped 20,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean and was forced to divert to Canada. The Boeing 757-200 was over the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at the time of the incident.

The flight was two hours past St John’s in Newfoundland, Canada over the Atlantic Ocean bound for London when it suddenly dropped 20,000 feet due to an engine problem and turned back, making a safe landing in St John’s in Newfoundland, Canada.

NBC To Broadcast Record Amount Of Olympic Games, Live Over The Internet; 5,535 Hours On 40 Streams

The Olympics start July 27 and will be broadcast on NBC and its affiliates along with live streaming video of complete games on the internet. In all, the network will broadcast 3,000 hours over the internet using up to 40 concurrent streams at NBCOlymics.com and the remainder over TV stations like NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC.

Olympic Flame Lit In Greece; To Travel Around Greece, U.K.

The Olympic Flame was lit today at the birthplace of the ancient games, Olympia Greece, by the high priestess, who used a mirror to focus the mirror and light the flame. From there the flame will travel to the Panathenian Stadium where it will be handed over to the current host of the games that start this summer, London.

British Government May Deploy Missiles Around London During Olympics

According to the British Ministry of Defense during preparations for a security exercise, it may deploy surface-to-air missiles around London during the 2012 summer olympics being held in London.

The government, including the MoD, Police, and intelligence services will be holding Exercise Olympic Guardian starting May 2 and at the conclusion of that will decide if missiles should be deployed.

Standing joint commander General Sir Nick Parker said the decision on the missiles would be taken "at the very highest political level".

Virgin Atlantic Flight En-Route To Orlando Makes Emergency Landing

A Virgin Atlantic, flight number VIR27, that was en-route to Orlando was forced to return to London Gatwick airport to make an emergency landing following reports of a burning smell.

The flight took off from London Gatwick airport and about an hour into the flight crew members began to smell something burning and the captain decided to return to the airport. Fire crews were on scene when the plane landed and said there was a report of a small fire but this has not been confirmed by the airline.
