U.S. And Mexico Sign New Colorado River Water Treaty And Sharing Rights

The United Stated and Colorado have signed a new five year water recourse agreement that covers the waters that come from the Colorado River and Lake Mead.

Under the new agreement, it gives Mexico the right to put some of its water in Lake Mead for storage. Also part of the deal, Mexico will receive more water rights to use as the reserve levels are higher but will forfeit some water when drought conditions drop the water reserve levels.

The agreement also spells out that water utility agencies in California, Arizona and Nevada can buy water from Mexico.

Nephew Of Former President George Bush Files Paperwork To Run For Next Election

The son of Jeb Bush, George Prescott Bush, has filed his election paperwork in Texas, to be eligible under campaign finance law, to run for office in Texas. George P. Bush is Hispanic, with his mother being from Mexico.

The 36-year-old owner of a consulting firm in Fort Worth is the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, nephew of George W. Bush, former President of the United States.

Suspected Smuggler's Jeep Gets Stuck On Top Of Border Fence Between Mexico And United States

Yuma, AZ -

U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered a jeep that had gotten stuck on top of a 14 foot tall fence separating Mexico and the United States near Yuma, Arizona.

Officials said that the jeep had already been abandoned when they arrived, but underscored how creative drug cartels are at getting drugs into the U.S.

No word on who had been driving it or what was in the Jeep, as it had been abandoned and emptied before Border Patrol agents arrived.

No word from the makers of Jeep as to how their premier 4x4 got stuck atop a fence either.

Mexican Navy Claim it Killed Zetas Drug Cartel Leader Heriberto Lazcano In Shootout

The Mexican Navy announced they believe they have killed Heriberto Lazcano (aka “El Lazca" and “El Verdugo” ), the leader ofthe Zetas drug cartel, in a shootout in a rural area of Progreso, Coahuila, and that they are awaiting detailed forensics to confirm this.

The Zetas are known to be one of the most gruesome and bloodiest drug cartels.

The Zetas cartel that Lazcano helped found with other deserters from an elite army unit has carried out some of Mexico’s bloodiest massacres, biggest jail breaks and fiercest attacks on authorities.

U.S. Jury Convicts Mexico's Gulf Cartel Manager Juan Roberto Rincon-Rincon Of Drug Trafficking

Following a week long trial in Brownsville, Texas, a U.S. jury has convicted one of the Gulf Cartels important managers of drug trafficking. Juan Roberto Rincon-Rincon was found guilty of all counts and was accused of heading the cartel's operations in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, a prime area for drug traffickers that borders the Rio Grande near McAllen, Texas.

Key testimony in the trial came from Rafael "El Junior" Cardenas-Vela, Jr., nephew of former Gulf Cartel leader Osiel Cardenas-Guillen, who is serving a 25-year sentence in a U.S. prison.

Explosion At Pemex Oil & Gas Refinery Plant Kills 26

An explosion occurred at a Pemex oil and gas refinery in Reynosa city, in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, not far from McAllen, Texas late yesterday. The incident killed 26 workers, 4 Pemex employees and 22 contractors.

Firefighters and rescue crews were able to put the fire out about an hour later. Roads in the surrounding areas were closed as fire trucks and ambulances rushed to the scene and took victims to hospitals.

Mexican Marines Capture Head Of Gulf Drug Cartel Jorge Eduardo Costilla Sánchez

Mexican Marines have captured one of the most wanted drug kinpins in both the United States and Mexico, 41-year-old Jorge Eduardo Costilla Sánchez, who heads the Gulf Cartel and also known as El Coss.

As Mexico approaches celebrating its Independence Day Sunday, the news gave a new reason to be happy said Mexican prosecutors.

Costilla is also wanted in the United States on charges of drug trafficking, money laundering and threatening to assault and murder federal law enforcement agents, and his arrest sets up the possibility of an extradition.

Tropical Storm Ernesto Kills 6 As It Hits Southern Mexico And Weakens

Tropical Storm Ernesto made landfall in the Mexican state of Veracruz, near Boca del Rio, killing three in widespread flooding. Ernesto made landfall over Mexico early this morning and as it begins to hit Mexico's tall mountains it has been downgraded to a tropical depression.

Ernesto had been the second hurricane of the 2012 season and is now traveling westward at 14 mph with winds around 35mph and heavy torrential rains. Flash flooding and mudslide have been predicted inland.

Mexican Police Arrest 17 In Connection With Recent Christian Youth Camp Attacks

Mexican police have arrested 17 suspects believed to have robbed and raped a christian youth group on a camping expedition at the Colibri ecological park near the town of Ixtapaluca in Mexico state.

State prosecutor Alfredo Castillo said among those arrested were two police officers and a former member of the military.

According to state prosecutors, the gunmen rounded up the 90 youth campers at gunpoint and robbed them. During the ordeal, five girls were allegedly raped and three others were sexually assaulted while many were beaten.

Pena Nieto Wins Mexican Presidential Elections, Old PRI Party Wins Power

Despite ballots still being counted, Pena Nieto of the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) is expected to win, having a 37% lead over his closest competitor so far, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who has not conceded yet.

The official quick count, published by the electoral authorities (IFE), is based on returns from a sample of around 7,500 polling stations across Mexico and has a 0.5% margin of error.
