Victims of Doral Parking Garage Collapse Reach Settlement With Ajax Building Corp

Miami, Fla. -

Family members of those killed in the Doral parking garage collapse, and injured victims, have reached a settlement with the building's main contractor, Ajax Building Corp along with other sub-contractors.

Four people were killed and five more injured when a large portion of the parking garage collapsed October 10th, 2012, it was part of Miami Dade College’s west campus.

The wrongful death settlement amount and terms were not made public.

Aerolineas Argentinas Flight Evacuated At Miami International Airport

Miami, Fla. -

Airport police at the Miami International Airport, MIA, had to quickly disembark passengers earlier this morning on an inbound Aerolineas Argentinas flight after the airline reportedly received an unspecified threat.

Once the plane landed authorities cordoned off the immediate area and began disembarking passenger then did a full sweep of the airplane but found nothing unusual said Ida Finamilian of the Miami airport police.

The initial report that came in had said that the plane had to be evacuated but did not give a reason.

Miami Armored Truck Robber Vladimir Louissant Gets Life After Killing Driver

Miami, Fla. -

Vladimir Louissant was sentenced to life in prison today for the murder of Brinks armored truck driver Alvaro Lopez Ramos at the Calder Race Track and Casino in August of 2011.

According to prosecutors, it was Louissant who fired the shot that killed Lopez, while other accomplices Victoria Barkley got 10 years, and Byron Kyler got five. Two others, Reginald Mitchell and Uri Ammar have already been convicted on charged related to the robbery.

Miami Golf Instructor Ricardo Moreno Arrested Again On Child Sex Charges

Miami, Fla. -

Police have arrested 52-year-old golf instructor Ricardo Moreno on Tuesday on new charges of child sex crimes after having been previously arrested over the weekend on child sex charges on a different boy at the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.

According to police, Moreno was arrested over the weekend for sexually molesting a 13-year-old boy who he was contracted to give golf lesson to. He was then arrested Tuesday after it was discovered he had also molested a different 15-year-old boy.

Man Shot Near S. Miami Metrorail Station Walks To Post Office To Get Help While Bleeding

Miami, Fla. -

An unidentified man was shot near the S. Miami Metrorail station at SW 70th Street and 59th Place after an altercation with a man on a bicycle resulted in the bicyclist shooting the other man. He had been waling with his girlfriend at the time.

According to police, the injured and bleeding man then walked about half a block to a Post Office and went into the lobby and asked for help.

The man was taken to the hospital where he is expected to recover but has refused to cooperate with police investigating the shooting.

Donald W. Purviance Arrested In Orlando On Human Trafficking And Solicitation of Sex From A Minor

Florida Department of Law Enforcement, FDLE, have arrested 46-year old Donald W. Purviance on charges of human trafficking, solicitation of a parent, soliciting the procurement of a minor for prostitution and attempted lewd and lascivious battery.

The charges stem from when Purviance live in Biscayne Park, near Miami, and caught the attention of the FDLE from an anonymous tip reporting some strange activities.

SunPass Comes Out With App For iPhones

SunPass has released an app for iPhones to allow the 900,000 SunPass users statewide to access and manage their accounts. SunPass also said they intend to release an Android version down the road (no pun intended).

SunPass is the pre-paid transponder toll collection system that operated toll roads in Miami, Tampa, parts of Orlando and the Florida Turnpike.

"In an increasingly mobile society, it makes sense to offer our customers as many choices as possible to self-service their SunPass account," said Turnpike Executive Director Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti.

Bagel Truck Dangles Off Highway Bridge In Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -

A bagel truck owned by Tracy Bakery in Miami has crashed and rescue crews responded to the scene of the truck hanging half way off an on-ramp leading to I-95 in Fort Lauderdale.

The front end of the truck was completely smashed in against a nearby supporting pillar.

One person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries and a second person, also in the truck, was found stuck inside the truck and "unresponsive".

Florida Gov Rick Scott Asks President Obama To Stop Impending Longshoreman Strike

[Update 12:02pm] Longshoreman and Maritime Alliance have agreed on Royalty pay, but continue to negotiate on other issues.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R), has asked president Obama to use his power to stop an impending Longshoreman strike set to begin in a couple days. If the strike happens, it will effectively close container shipping ports in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville, plus other ports from Houston to New York.

Former Police Office To be Executed Tuesday For Killing 9 People

The State of Florida is set to execute 56-year-old Manuel Pardo, a former south Florida police officer. Pardo was convicted in 1988 of killing nine people saying he was getting rid of the "scum of the earth".

Pardo admitted to the killing during his trial which he killed drug dealers and witnesses.

Pardo's attorney has filed an appeal saying the court failed to provide a meaningful review of Pardo's death sentence and that psychiatric and competency information about Pardo was never forwarded to the state Executive Clemency Board, both of which are required by law.
