China Announces 10.7% Increase In Defense Spending Amid Slow Economy

As China prepares to receive a new premier and change in leadership, it has announced a 10.7% increase in defense spending while forecasting a 7.5% economic growth rate.

China has been increasing its defense spending over the last couple decades by double digit figures, but is still relatively small at $115 billion compared to the U.S. which budgeted $652.2 billion in 2012.

Incoming leader Xi Jinping as publicly stated he wants to bring in reforms to combat corruption, pollution and the economic disparity between poor and rich.

White House Continues To Support Gen. Allen Amid Growing Scandal Between Gen. Petraeus and Broadwell

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said he continues to support the nomination of General Allen as Supreme Allied Commander of Northern Europe echoing statements from presidential spokesman Jay Carney.

Gen. Allen's nomination to the position has been temporarily suspended while an investigation is being reviewed by the Inspector General at the Defense Department.

Meanwhile, the FBI has found classified documents at mistress Paula Broadwell's home, who is also a an Army Major reservist.

Pink Tutu Wearing Marine Attacks Wheelchair Bound Disabled Veteran At Restaurant

Gainesville, Fla. -

Police in Gainesville, Florida have arrested 22-year-old Christopher M. Dabney who witnesses say attacked a wheelchair bound disabled U.S. Army veteran, Daniel Priotti, for wearing a uniform while in the wheelchair.

Dabney is a former U.S. Marine and was wearing a pink tutu at the time of the attack at a Gainesville restaurant.

Prosecutors have charged Dabney with abuse of the disabled.

F-35 Supersonic Bomber Makes First Bomb Drop In Mojave Desert

Los Angeles, CA -

Lockheed Martin passed another milestone as its next generation F-35 fighter jet dropped a 2,000 bomb on a bombing range in the Mojave Desert at the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station test range, it was piloted by Air Force Maj. Eric "Doc" Schultz.

The F-35, known as the Joint Strike Fighter, is a supersonic stealth fighter planned to be added to the military's Air Force, navy and Marine Corps.

The military plans to but 2,443 at a cost of $382 billion.

Fort Bragg Army Officer Charged With Sodomy

Fort Bragg, NC -

The Army has arrested Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair and charged him with sodomy, include forced sex, pornography, violating an order, alcohol use, engaging in inappropriate relationships, misusing a government travel charge card, and conduct unbecoming an officer.

Sinclair served as deputy commander of the 82nd Airborne Division headquarters in Afghanistan and was sent home this past spring and served in this capacity since July 2010.

U.S. Increases Military Forces In Persian Gulf; Send Signal To Iran After It Threatens To Close Straits Of Hormuz

As the Iranian nuclear problem drags on with renewed threats by Iran to close the Straits of Hormuz, the U.S. military has been building up its forces in the area, with the Navy's 5th fleet headquartered in Bahrain. The U.S. has vowed to prevent Iran from closing the vital waterway which carries up to 40% of the world's oil shipped by sea.

The U.S. Navy has two aircraft carriers in the region now, and has moved 8 Avenger class mine clearing ships into the Persian Gulf, and the Air Force has repositioned F-22 Raptors to the area as well.

Orlando Soldier Steals $10 Million From U.S. Army

Orlando, Fla. -

Sebastian Stewart Oyegun II has pleased guilty to stealing U.S. government property and theft over a $10 million scam the soldier worked by buying items using a government account and shipping the items to his home or another address where he then sold them on Craigslist and eBay.

The soldier is part of the Army Active Guard Reserve in Orlando and transferred into the unit from Los Angeles in November of 2010.

U.S. Military Planning First Ever Gay Pride Celebrations

One year after the Don't Ask, Don't Tell was repealed for the military, it will be hosting a Gay Pride Celebration, marking a major turn-around in how the military deals with its gay and lesbian members. Until recently, members who were discovered to be gay or lesbian were kicked out of the military, 13,000 since 1993 under a law congress passed called Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

F-16 Military Jet Intercepts Small Plane For Violating Restricted Airspace Over LA During Obama Visit

Los Angeles, CA -

An F-16 fighter jet intercepted a small plane after it strayed into restricted airspace over Los Angeles while President Barack Obama was in town for a fund raising event.

The airplane in question was a small single-engine Cessna 117 and it was forced to land around 5pm yesterday according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command. The pilot reportedly failed to alter course after several warning were made over the radio as well.

7 Injured In Fire Aboard US Navy Nuclear Submarine In Portsmouth Maine

A fire erupted on board the USS Miami, SSN 755, a US Navy nuclear submarine, that was in port at the Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Seven people have been injured, five of them Navy firefighters while fighting the fire which began Wednesday but only extinguished Thursday. Officals described the fire as "challenging."

Firefighters were first summoned to the dry docks at 5:41pm and as the evening wore on, the fire grew to a four alarm fire.
