Florida Gov Rick Scott Asks President Obama To Stop Impending Longshoreman Strike

[Update 12:02pm] Longshoreman and Maritime Alliance have agreed on Royalty pay, but continue to negotiate on other issues.

Tallahassee, Fla. -

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R), has asked president Obama to use his power to stop an impending Longshoreman strike set to begin in a couple days. If the strike happens, it will effectively close container shipping ports in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville, plus other ports from Houston to New York.

Train Derails In New Jersey With Hazardous Material Leaking

A freight tran has derailed after a bridge collapsed in southern New Jersey near Paulsboro that was carry vinyl chloride, a hazardous material, which leaked out causing several in the surrounding area to be taken to the hospital.

The train derailed on tracks belonging to Conrail, but it is not yet clear if it was a Conrail train or what caused the train to crash.

According to the Gloucester Times, four tank cars derailed into the Mantua Creek.

Vinyl chloride is used in the making of polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is highly toxic, flammable and carcinogenic.

Nor'easter Forces New Evacuations In New Jersey And New York; Airlines Cancel Flights

There have been new rounds of evacuations ordered as a Nor'easter approaches the New Jersey and New York City areas, both hard hit just last week from Hurricane Superstorm Sandy.

The expected storm is expected to bring high winds, rain in coastal areas and snowfall inland and at higher elevations starting today.

Forecasters said Wednesday that the storm will be weaker than expected as its track has shifted more eastwards and offshore.

Still, officials said they are bracing for 50mph winds, and a three foot storm surge in low lying coastal areas.

NYC will resume limited subway, LIRR and Metro North service tomorrow (10-31-2012) moring according to a statement by NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.

National Guard Evactuate More Than 1,000 From Moonachie As Hackensack River Surges

New York City -

The New Jersey National Guard had to evactuate more than 1,000 residents in the small town of Moonachie which sits along the Hackensack River as the storm surge overruns the Moonachie Trailer Park.

Residents were forced to escape up through their roofs as the river rose more than five feet in under an hour. According to residents, the surge flooded a nearby creek which then overflowed into their small trailer park about 10 miles northwest of Manhattan.

The surrounding towns of Carlstadt, Little Ferry, Hackensack and South Hackensack also were swamped.

Hurricane Sandy made landfall last night just south of Atlantic City at about 7pm after speeding up its forward motion with 75-80mph winds and a large storm surge.  So far 33 people have been reported dead as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy made landfall at about 8pm just south of Atlantic City New Jersey along with a 10-14 foot storm surge causing flooding to many coastal communities.  This is the first hurricane to make landfall in New Jersey in more than 80 years.

Hurricane Sandy has passed over Cuba and is still on track to tro travel north along Florida's east coast this weekend as a category 2 hurricane.

Long range tracks show Sandy could turn west or northwest after passing east of the Carolina's and hit parts of New England somewhere between Ocean City, Maryland and Cape Cod, MA.

New Jersey Man Tries To Enter 'Holy Land Experience' With Gun

Orlando, Fla. -

According to police and reports, a New Jersey man recently discharged from the military attempted to enter the 'Holy Land Experience' with a gun Sunday morning and told police he needed to speak with God. The Park is closed on Sunday.

Police have Baker Acted the yet to be identified man and taken him to Lakeside Alternatives for psychiatric evaluation, where they have hold him for up to 72 hours.

The man was vacationing in Orlando with his family when he suddenly needed to speak with God said a sheriff's deputy.

Park employees noticed the man and notified police.
