Tropical Storm Andrea Approaches Florida With Heavy Rains

Miami, Fla. -

Tropical Storm Andrea is roughly 160 miles west of Tampa, Florida moving NNE at 14mph and is expected to make landfall along Florida's Big Bend area. The maximum sustained winds are 60mph.

Heavy rains have already started hitting most of Florida from Fort Myers to West Palm Beach, Orlando, Gainesville and the Tampa area.

After making landfall, Andrea is expected to make its way NE over Valdosta, Georgia and southeast Georgia before moving onto South Carolina.

As Hurricane Season Starts, Possible Storm Expected To Hit Florida On Friday

Miami, Fla. -

June 1st was the start of the hurricane season and forecasters have announced the formation of the first possible storm, Invest 91.

It is currently located in the southern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to hit Florida on Friday, with a chance at developing into something stronger.

Heavy rains are expected throughout the week in much of Florida, including in the Tampa area as well as Orlando and Miami.

Hurricane Sandy made landfall last night just south of Atlantic City at about 7pm after speeding up its forward motion with 75-80mph winds and a large storm surge.  So far 33 people have been reported dead as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy made landfall at about 8pm just south of Atlantic City New Jersey along with a 10-14 foot storm surge causing flooding to many coastal communities.  This is the first hurricane to make landfall in New Jersey in more than 80 years.

Surfers Hit The Beach As Swell From Hurricane Sandy Hits Florida Beaches- Cruise Ship Stuck?

As Hurricane Sandy Passes by Florida's east coast, surfers and beach watchers were out to see waves between 10-12 feet come ashore. A large swell from Sandy began hitting Brevard County beaches early this morning and is expected to remain through Saturday at least according to forecasters.

Brevard County Lifeguards were patrolling and keeping everyone except surfer out of the water.

Tropical Storm Warning Issued For Parts Of Central Florida, Coastline Expecting Rough Surf

A tropical storm warning has been issued for parts of Central Florida, mainly along the coastline. Conditions are expected to begin deteriorating Friday and Friday evening with heavy rains and sustained winds above 35 mph with gust much higher.

For now, Brevard County Beaches remain open, but Friday (tomorrow) the beaches will not be staffed with lifeguards.

So far no school closures have been announced.

Category 2, Hurricane Sandy has been blamed for at least two deaths in the Caribbean as it crossed over Jamaica and Cuba.

Hurricane Sandy has passed over Cuba and is still on track to tro travel north along Florida's east coast this weekend as a category 2 hurricane.

Long range tracks show Sandy could turn west or northwest after passing east of the Carolina's and hit parts of New England somewhere between Ocean City, Maryland and Cape Cod, MA.
