Acer's Small Screen Windows 8 Tablet Leaked; uses Full Windows 8 OS

Amazon accidentally leaked images of Acer's new Small Screen Windows 8 tablet on its website after what is being reported as "confusion" over product management and sales.

Following Acer's release announcement of several new Tablets, Amazon posted for sale the Iconia W3-810-1600, except that model was not among those mentioned in Acer's release announcement.

It is a 1.1 pound tablet with an 8.1 inch screen and an x86 processor that will on a full Windows 8 OS, unlike current Windows tablets which run on Windows RT.

Samsung Posts Huge Profits, Beating Apple On Smartphone Sales

Samsung's fourth quarter profits are up 76%, surpassing expectations and continued to sell more smartphones overall than Apple. Popularity of its Galaxy smartphones and growing share of low end smartphones and prepaid phones helped push the electronics maker into the number slot again.

When only the Galaxy SIII smartphone is compared to Apple's popular iPhone, Apple still beats Samsung, but that lead is also starting to become smaller.

Samsung raked in a net profit for the fourth quarter of $6.6 billion.

Microsoft has been betting big on its new operating system, Windows 8, and the release of its new tablet, the Surface.

Last year Apple sold more iPads than any single PC maker sold in computers, desktops and laptops combined. Microsoft used to dominate the market, with nearly 90% of all devices that connected to the internet running some version of Windows, but that is down sharply with the proliferation of smartphones and tablets.

Microsoft Says It Fixed Major Security Vulnerability With Internet Explorer Web Browser

Microsoft has announced that it has permanently fixed a major security vulnerability with Internet Explorer and it will be available on Friday.

The vulnerability was discovered by a Luxembourg-based security researcher who was investigating recent security breeches into servers. It was discovered those servers also hosted malicious websites and his computer was infected.

The threat was so high that the German government warned its citizens to stop using Internet Explorer until Microsoft was able to fix the problem.

Internet Doomsday Is July 9th, Many Won't Be Able To Access Internet

The "internet doomsday" as it has been referred to by the FBI, will strike July 9th. That's when the FBI will take down many of the servers it built to protect internet users from the affect of a virus that spread across 4 million computers.

The virus makes a computer unable to look up a DNS, the internet's address book, when a user wants to go to a particular web address. Instead, it sends users to either no website, or to fake website with fake products.

Dell Announces It Is Buying Quest Softeware For $2.4 Billion In Cash

Dell Inc has announced it will buy Quest Software for $2.4 billion in an all cash purchase, or $28 per share. The private investment firm Insight Ventures had originally offered $23 per share in March and a bidding war in June developed after Dell offered $25.50 per share for Quest Software. Insight Ventures later offered $25.75 per share for Quest, but was not enough against Dell's final offer.

The launch of Diablo 3 by Blizzard Entertainment has become the fastest selling PC video game in history with over 6.3 million downloads and sales in the first week.

In fact it was so successful, that servers that run the game were inundated by users causing some who downloaded the game to not be able to play right away. This glitch caused several publicly negative comments on various game forums.

Record Profits For Microsoft, But Less Profit; Company Says Xbox Still The Best Selling Game Console

Microsoft has posted a record profit of $17.41 billion for the first quarter of 2012, but actual profit was down 2.4% to $5.11 billion with game consoles helping to make ends meet. Despite lower than expected Xbox sales, Microsoft says the Xbox is still the number one selling game console for over a year now.

Sales of PC's and its operating system were down to just above break-even and the company cited tremendous demand for tablets and smartphones as the leading cause.
