Philadelphia To Combat High STD Rate In Schools With Free Condoms

Philadelphia, PA -

Philadelphia has one of the highest rates of STD transmission rates and will begin attempting to combat the problem by giving out free condoms to students as young as 14 for free.

In what some say is a controversial move, the schools will make condoms available for free in dispensers located in the nurse's office at each high school and some middle schools where the STD problem is the highest.

Philadelphia Judge Grants Stay of Execution For Terrance Williams

Philadelphia, PA -

Philadelphia Judge M. Teresa Sarmina has issued a stay of execution for convicted killer Terrance Williams saying there was "reasonable probability" that his sentence might have been different had new claims by William's defense were brought out at trial.

Those claims include allegations that the man Williams beat to death (Amos Norwood) with a tire iron had sexually assaulted him prior to Williams killing him.

US Airways Flight Lands After Bomb Scare; Unknown Caller Played Hoax On Passenger

U.S. Airways flight 1276 en-route from Philadelphia to Dallas was forced to return and land in Philadelphia after a bomb scare was called in.

The FBI said an unknown called reported a specific passenger was carrying explosives, which in turn lead authorities to call the plane back and conduct a security sweep of the airplane and all of its passengers.

The suspect identified by the caller was taken into custody only for the FBI to later learn the whole incident was a hoax by the caller. The man taken into custody has since been released.

Catholic Monsignor William Lynn Sentenced To 3-6 Years For Sexual Abuse Coverup

Monsignor William Lynn of the Catholic Church in Philadelphia has been sentenced to 3 to 6 year in prison, which is less than the 7 years prosecutors had sought in the case. He was recently convicted of covering up sexual abuses by priests and failing to take action or notify law enforcement.

Lynn supervised hundreds of priests in his role as secretary for clergy at the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

U.S. Airways To Raise Ticket Prices by 600% on Some Routes like Pittsburgh to Philadelphia

U.S. Airways has published its ticket rates and some routes like the Pittsburgh to Philadelphia will rise 600%, from $118 to $698 starting in January.

The price increase comes as Southwest Airlines is pulling out of the same route.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey has sent a letter to the airline asking for an explanation and U.S. Airways replied they price their tickets based on what the market will bear.

More than Three Dozen Arrested at Boeing Philadelphia Plant

The FBI and DEA raided Boeing's suburban Philadelphia plant on Thursday, making 36 arrests of current or former Boeing employees, and one of an unaffiliated person. Boeing's Philly plant manufactures military helicopters, including the V-22 Osprey and the H-47 Chinook. The employees were all arrested on charges related to buying or selling prescription painkillers.

Fort Lee Virginia Soldier Leonard John Egland Wanted In Killing of 4, Shoots At Police In Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA -

Leonard John Egland is wanted for the murder of his ex-wife, her boyfriend, their son, and the mother-in-law. Egland, a soldier based in Fort Lee in Virginia, had returned from war service not too long ago after serving 3 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was last seen evading and shooting at police in Philadelphia while Hurricane Irene lashed the city.

Egland was spotted in Doylestown Township where he fired at police and was seen again in Warwick Township where officers said they were also fired upon. No one was hurt in either shooting.
