IOA Corporate 5K Run In Orlando To Have Tighter Security Following Boston Marathon Bombing

Orlando, Fla. -

Organizers of the IOA Corporate 5k run in downtown Orlando along with the Orlando Police have said they will be increasing overall security and police presence for the run following the Boston Marathon bombing which killed three people so far and injured another 134.

16,000 runners are expected to participate in the run drawing contestants from all over the country and a few foreign places as well.

The route is rectangular and will follow Central Blvd, Bumby, Robinson and Rosalind, encircling Lake Eola.

Sanford's New Police Chief Sworn In, Replaces Bill Lee After Death of Trayvon Martin

Sanford, Fla. -

The city of Sanford, Florida has sworn in a new police chief, Cecil E. Smith, Monday morning after he accepted the job in January. Smith replaced embattled chief Bill Lee who was fired following the shooting death of Trayvon Martin by accused suspect George Zimmerman.

Smith held the position of Deputy Chief of the Elgin, Illinois poice department before eventually moving to sunny Florida.

Smith will earn $114,757 annually, according to city officials.

An increasing number of judges and privacy advocates are beginning to question the legality of a high-tech tool police use to secretly collect information on subjects without a warrant.

StingRay is a sophisticated surveillance device that allows police to pick up your cell phone's ID number, phone number, location, and other information by simulating a cell phone tower and fooling your phone into sending its data to the StingRay device.

NY Cannibal Cop Gilberto Valle Convicted of Plot To Kill And Eat Women

New York City -

A federal jury has convicted 28-year-old Gilberto Valle of plotting to kill and cook "girl meat" to eat. During the trial, jury were shown evidence of Valle's strange sexual fetish of cannibalism and that he often talked about it online in various chat rooms.

Prosecutors say that an analysis of Valle's computer found he was taking concrete steps to abduct his wife and at least five other women he knew. They said he looked up potential targets on a restricted law enforcement database, searched the Internet for how to knock someone out with chloroform.

8 South African Police Officers Accused Of Dragging Man Behind Truck To His Death

Eight South African police officers are accused of Murder after a video surfaced that showed them subduing a 27-year-old Mido Macia, then tying his arms to the back of a truck and driving him through the streets of Johannesburg, which officials say killed the Mozambican taxi driver.

"They will answer to a charge of murder when they appear in court on Monday," Moses Dlamini, spokesman for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), told media outlets.

Police originally stopped Macia after they say he illegally parked and created a traffic jam.

Xbox User Caused Police To Storm House In Search of Hostages, Turn Out To Be A Hoax

Police in Oviedo Responded to a home on Bay Club Rd overnight and burst into the home while the family was asleep, believing there was a hostage situation.

As members of the SWAT team searched the home and forced the family outside, reality set in, realizing the police were the victims of a hoax.

It started between two Xbox players online who got into a disagreement, resulting in one of them calling police reporting a hostage situation, but gave an incorrect address, hoping to lead police to the other users home.

Leesburg Cop, Henri Bart Larue, Arrested On Sexual Battery Charges

Leesburg, Fla. -

Police in Leesburg have arrested 25-year-old rookie police officer Henri Bart Larue on charges on armed sexual battery by a law enforcement officer. The arrest follows an investigation by the FDLE and a warrant being issued.

Larue is accused of stopping a female driver for a broken taillight and found that she had a suspended drivers license, then arrested her and on the way to the jail, stopped and forced her to touch him and do other sexual acts.

Florida Senate Passes Ban On Drone Aircraft From Flying And Spying On Citizens

Tallahassee, Fla. -

A Senate Committee has passed a bill unanimously that would ban to use of unmanned aircraft or drones from flying in Florida. The bill makes exceptions in cases where a warrant has been issued by a judge, hostage situations and terrorism.

Despite other states that have allowed drones to some degree or another, Florida's law makes privacy rights the top priorities. The original bill was a blanket ban, but after police chiefs objected, exceptions for warrants, hostage situations, fires and terrorism were allowed.

Sen. Joe Negron (R-Sutart) sponsored the bill.

Paranoid Man Claiming To Be Jesus Bites Cop

Charlotte County deputies have arrested 18-year-old Paul Eggers Greene after he claimed to be Jesus and that people were out to get him.

The indecent started When deputies found Greene jumping, screaming and waving his arms. According to deputies, Greene then approached then and was ordered to stop, and stood there with a blank look on his face.

Greene then ran at deputies flailing his arms saying he is Jesus, when deputies fired a taser at him he bit one officer while trying to resist being put into handcuffs.
