Key West Post Office Is Evacuated After Receiving Threats And Suspicious Package

Key West, Fla. -

The post office on Whitehead Street in Key West had to be evacuated after receiving a threatening note and a package that contains an unknown substance.

The employees and patrons were put through a decontamination process and those who were in closer contact with the package were transported to the Lower Keys Medical Center hospital as a precaution.

Officials have closed the area around the post office and are asking the public to stay away and said it will not reopen today.

Man Shot Near S. Miami Metrorail Station Walks To Post Office To Get Help While Bleeding

Miami, Fla. -

An unidentified man was shot near the S. Miami Metrorail station at SW 70th Street and 59th Place after an altercation with a man on a bicycle resulted in the bicyclist shooting the other man. He had been waling with his girlfriend at the time.

According to police, the injured and bleeding man then walked about half a block to a Post Office and went into the lobby and asked for help.

The man was taken to the hospital where he is expected to recover but has refused to cooperate with police investigating the shooting.

Post Office To Reduce Number Of Days Open To Save Money

The U.S. Postal Service plans to reduce the number of days their offices and branches will be open in an effort to save money. The Postal Service just missed a $3.5 billion payment and has been in financial problems for the last few years as the internet takes of many routine correspondeces.

Rural areas will take the biggest hit, with an estimated 13,000 postal office and branches planning to cut the numbef of day open to as low as two days per week.

Moonshine causes evacuation of post office

A Treasure Coast office was evacuated Thursday after two cardboard packages began to leak an unknown substance. Martin County Fire Rescue responded and checked the air at the facility to discover no harmful substances. A package contained a broken pint sized jar labeled “moonshine”, a mug, two CD’s, and a pamphlet for Ole Smokey Tennessee Moonshine. Two people were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.

Melbourne's Ocean Avenue Post Office Saved from Closure


Melbourne, Fla. -

The Ocean Avenue Post Office branch in Melbourne Beach, Florida was on the list of more than 3,700 post offices to close, 34 of them here in Florida.

But locals started a grassroots effort to save their post office, and those efforts have paid off.  The U.S. Postal Service announced Monday that it will not close that location, which serves zip code 32951.
