Republican Party In Turmoil After Conservative Groups Threaten To Leave

Several conservative republican groups have written letters threatening to leave the party if the GOP does not reaffirm its stance to win a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and supporting the Defense of Marriage Act.

Among the several letter writters were Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, Phyllis Schlafly of the Eagle Forum, James Dobson of Family Talk Action and Marjorie Dannenfelser of Susan B. Anthony List.

Former Florida Governor Charlie Christ Tweets He Is Now A Democrat

Former Florida Governor Charlie Christ tweeted on a Friday that he has officially joined the Democratic Party. The tweet included a photo of the Christ holding a voter registration form which he will use to change his registration.

Christ was Florida’s last governor from 2007 to 2011 as a Republican. Upon the end of his first term Christ attempted to run for US Senate as an Independent. Christ lost to Republican Marco Rubio.

Upon existing politics he Christ joined famed law firm Morgan and Morgan out of Tampa

GOP Shakeup; House Budget Committee Boots Tea Party Members

The House of Representatives House Budget Committee has booted two of their own, conservative Tea Party members Tim Huelskamp of Kansas and Justin Amash of Michigan.

Both Huelskamp and Amash have consistently voted against Hose Speaker John Boehner.

Political analyst say the move will make it easier for republicans to make a deal with democrats while conservatives say its part of an overall plan by moderate republicans like Boehner to marginalize Tea Party members.

President Obama Plans To Nominate U.S. Ambassador To The U.N. Susan Rice To Secretary Of State

The White House has said the President Obama wants to nominate the U.S. Ambassador to the United Stations, Susan Rice, as the next Secretary of State with Obama calling her his "quarterback at the U.N.". The U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. had previously been elevated to cabinet level.

Rice is known for being outspoken and straightforward in talks with officials at the U.N. using undiplomatic language and has won the affection of U.S. officials.

Nephew Of Former President George Bush Files Paperwork To Run For Next Election

The son of Jeb Bush, George Prescott Bush, has filed his election paperwork in Texas, to be eligible under campaign finance law, to run for office in Texas. George P. Bush is Hispanic, with his mother being from Mexico.

The 36-year-old owner of a consulting firm in Fort Worth is the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, nephew of George W. Bush, former President of the United States.

Supreme Court Refuses To Block Republican Attempts To Limit Early Voting In Ohio

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to block early voting in Ohio, turning down a republican request as the Presidential Elections approach Nov 6, election day.

A law passed by the republican controlled Ohio legislature limited early voting except for military and overseas residents and an appeals court re-instated the days removed.

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, appealed that ruling to the Supreme Court but today lost the republican fight.

Pennsylvania's Supreme Court Rules Voter ID Law To be Returned To Lower Court For Reconsideration

Pennsylvania's Supreme Court has ordered the state's Voter ID law back to a lower court for reconsideration saying it should be blocked if voters would be shut out by hurdles to obtaining ID cards.

The ruling is one of several in numerous states that have created so called Voter ID laws by republican held state legislatures. Republicans say it is to prevent voting fraud, despite actual voter ID fraud accounting for less than 1000th of 1% of all votes cast in the last decade according to opponents of such laws, and republicans do not deny the rate.

Non-Partisain Congressional Research Service Say Lowering Taxes For Rich Does Not Create Jobs

The Congressional Research Office, a nonpartisan policy research agency that works for congress, has come out with a new report that shows lowering taxes for the rich does not create jobs or spur the economy.

“There is not conclusive evidence, however, to substantiate a clear relationship between the 65-year steady reduction in the top tax rates and economic growth,” the CRS reported. “Analysis of such data suggests the reduction in the top tax rates have had little association with saving, investment, or productivity growth.”

Tropical Storm Isaac Continues To Grow As It Heads For Florida And The Republican Convention

Miami, Fla. -

Tropical Storm Isaac has continued its growth over the last 24 hours and now has max sustained winds of 45mph.  Forecasters are predicting Isaac to become a hurricane and Florida sits directly in its track.

Isaac is currently heading west at 19mph and is about 205 miles from Guadeloupe with a minimum central pressure of 1004mb.  Nearly all of the Caribbean islands are now under a tropical storm warning, while Puerto Rico, British Virgin Islands an the Dominican Republic are under a hurricane watch.

Missouri Congressmen Todd Akin Declares Women Who Are Raped Rarely Get Pregnant

Missouri congressman Todd Akin has stated that in cases of legitimate rape, a woman's body has ways to prevent her from becoming pregnant.

The conservative republican had been asked during a recent interview if he supports abortions for women who have been raped when responding to that question.

"It seems to me first of all from what I understand from doctors that's really rare, ... If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," said Akin.
