U.S. Retail Sales Fall As Sequestration, Higher Taxes And Weak Hiring Set In

The Commerce Department is reporting that retail sales fell by the greatest amount in nine months as resident are faced with higher taxes due to sequestration, and weak hiring by employers, down .04% from February to March.

Analyst say that despite the lower number in consumer spending, its not exactly as bad as one might think, for one reason, spending on gas is down significantly, 2.2%, but that is because of lower gas prices and the report does not take into account price fluctuation.

Window Shopping Gets More Expensive As Store Charges $5 Bucks "Just To Look"

The pastime of many, especially women looking for a cheap day out just got a bit more pricey. Window shopping will now cost visitors $5 bucks to just have a look around.

A food supplies store in Australia, Celiac Supplies, has posted an ominous warning to those looking to price compare and then go online to buy, or go to a competitor.

The store said it is an effort to stop people from coming into the store only for the purpose of price shopping them, both consumers and competitors.

Celiac did say if you make a purchase, the $5 bucks will be deducted off your total purchase.

Wal-Mart Announces It Is Limiting Sales Of Ammunition As Demand Soars And Supply Shrinks

Wal-Mart has announced that it is limiting the amount of ammunition a person can buy to three boxes per day per person in an effort to cope with "extremely high demand".

In the announcement, Wal-Mart spokesperson Ashley Hardie did not give any reasons for the high demand but said supplies are starting to run low and that they are working with suppliers to ensure the availability of supplies.

Wal_mart is the nation's largest retailer and is based in Bentonville, Ark.

RECALL: Salmon Tested Positive For Listeria At Whole Foods Stores

The FDA has issued a recall of salmon sold at Whole Foods stores after testing positive for listeria, which is a deadly pathogen especially to children, the elderly and those with weak immune systems.

The recall involves 4-ounce Whole Catch Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, both cold-smoked and sliced, which contain the lot number 7425A2298B and a UPC code of 0 99482 40880 0.

The tainted salmon were sold in stores in Florida, plus other stores in Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island and Utah.

Toyota Unseats GM As Top Auto Maker Again

Once again Toyota has become the world's largest automaker, selling 9.7 million vehicles in 2012, compared to GM's 9.29 million.

Despite the change, both companies saw significant increases, Toyota released updated models of popular models such as the Camry.

Toyota last surpassed GM in 2008, but GM retook the title in 2011 as Japan suffered catastrophic natural disasters, the earthquake and resulting tsunami which forced production of all Japanese products to drop.

Last year GM's global sales rose 2.9% while Toyota saw a 22% increase.

Target Pledges To Price Match Year Round

Minneapolis based Target has said it will make its temporary holiday policy of price matching its competitors permanent following disappointing holiday sales.

Target is the nations second largest discount retailer after Wal-Mart, but widely considered a step up in quality of products and customer service.

The new policy is effective immediately and will be valid for prices found at Amazon, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Best Buy and Wal-Mart online websites.

CYBER MONDAY; 150 Million Expected To Log On For 2012

Today is Cyber Monday, and an estimated 150 million people are expected to log on today and buy holidays gifts.

Retailers took in an estimated $45 billion during the period from Gray Thursday, Black Friday, to Broke Sunday. The average shopper spent $423 this past weekend.

So far for the overall holiday period, 1 in 4 online shoppers used a mobile device, and an overwhelming 80% of those shoppers were using iPads.

Black Friday Sales Set Records Topping $20 Billion

The nation's retails are happy after setting a new Black Friday records today with an estimated $20 billion in sales just today, that's $4 billion more than last year.

Lines were long at many retailers including, Wal-Mart, Target, Sears, Macy's, Best Buy and other retailers since many of them actually opened yesterday between 8pm and midnight, hoping to get a head start on shoppers who reportedly are planning to spend more this year.

Economy Adds 171,000 New Jobs In October

THe U.S. Economy added 171,000 new jobs for the months of October and the consumer price index rose to its highest level in for years, both good signs that show Americans are ready and willing to start spending again.

The unemployment rate however, rose from 7.8 to 7.9 percent, but economist say that is actually not bad thing, that it shows people who have not been looking for work, and therefore not previously counted in the unemployment rate, are actually out looking now, believing the economy is getting better.

Retailers Expect To See Healthy Holiday Sales After October Sales gained 2.7%

Retailers saw a 2.7% gain in sales for the months of October according to Thomson Reuters' and up 4.7% when drug stores and pharmacies are excluded which beach analysts expectations of 4.5%.

News of the gains have helped retailers begin to see a happy holiday for them, though retailers so far have not indicated they plan to hire more seasonal workers than last year, indicting they expect cheaper margins on the items they sell.

Luxury retailers and discount chains alike saw increases, though chains like Nordstrom saw a 9.8% increase compared to Costco at 4.1%
