France To Become 14th Nation To Approve Gay Marriage

France is set to approve gay marriage after its lower house of Parliament approved gay marriage legislation. The vote was 331-225 and followed increased homophobic attacks on suspected gays across the country after the Catholic church lead an effort to prevent its approval.

French President François Hollande championed the legislation he submitted, "marriage for all", as part of his socialist left-leaing stance that got hi m elected.

President Obama Urging Supreme Court To Overturn Part Of Defense Of Marriage Act

The Obama administration urged the Supreme Court on Friday to throw out a section of a 1996 federal law that prohibits recognition of same-sex marriage. The briefing was a part of United States v. Windsor that is challenging the Defense of Marriage Act which declared marriage legally between a man and woman.

Washington National Cathedral To Allow Same Sex Weddings

Washington's National Cathedral has said it will begin preforming same sex marriages. The move is seen as significant because of it's prominent status, its where president's are mourned, speeches are delivered and presidential inaugural services are held and hundreds of thousand of tourist visit each year.

The 106 year old cathedral is the nation's most prominent of the Episcopal churches.

Facebook Adds Gay Marriage Icon, France To Allow Gay Marriages Soon

Facebook has added a gay marriage icon for users to select from, either two grooms or two brides. This gives those who use marriage icons more to choose from than the previous man-woman on top of a cake icon as the only choice, regardless of sexuality.

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes was among several to use the new icons this past weekend when he married longtime boyfriend Sean Eldridge. Mark Zuckerberg was among more than 2,000 users who hit the like button on the announcement, according to the Times.

Same Sex Marriage On Army Base Angers Some Lawmakers Who have Threatened To Retaliate

The Army has confirmed that a same-sex marriage has taken place at Fort Polk in Louisiana by an enlisted female and her civilian lover and called it a "private religious ceremony."

The marriage was conducted by the base's Army Chaplain last month and this has angered Rep. John Fleming (R) who's congressional district includes Fort Polk.
