Apple Takes #6 Spot On Fortune 500 List; and is Highest Ranked Tech Company

Apple has managed to get into the top 10 list of the Fortune 500 list of largest corporations. In fact, Apple is now ranked number 6 on the list of 500, and is the highest ranked tech company.

Despite shares of Apple going through a bit of turbulence as the company's stock is down nearly 35% from a high of $700 to $461, Apple's revenue continues to climb, ranking in more than a billion dollars a week in operating profits.

Apple's iMessenger And FaceTime Go Down Forcing Users To Feel Useless

Apple's popular iMessage and FaceTime services were interrupted for a several hours on Tuesday which affected numerous users in the U.S., forcing iPhone users to send text messages via the old 160 character standards and unable to make video calls.

The outage occurred between 3:11 p.m. ET to 8:20 p.m. Easter Time.

During the outage, users took to twitter and other social media websites venting their frustration at the inability to use those features. Users were able to use their iPhones and iPads to post such comments.

How Far We've Come With Cell Phones In 40 years

40 years ago the first cell phone call was made by Martin Cooper of Motorola, and he called his chief rival, Joel Engel of Bell Labs, who was also working on developing a cell phone.

We've come along way since the first commercially available cell phone went on sale for $3,995, dubbed, "The Brick" (Motorola DynaTAC 8000X) which was 13x1.75x3.5inches and weighed 11 times more than the iPhone 3GS, and was like a anchor compared to the iPhone 5 which comes in at just 112 grams.

The Brick had a battery of letting a user talk for an astonishingly long time, 35 minutes.

40 Billion App Downloads And Growing, Apple's App Store Reaps Huge Success

Apple's App store reaped huge success in 2012 with the total number of downloads surpassing 40 billion since 2008. 2012 was an especially good year, with the total app downloads reaching 25 billion by March, and 15 billion in the last 9 months alone.

In all, Apple says its App environment has helped developers earn $7 billion in revenue, producing 775,000 apps, of which 300,000 are available for the iPad.

10 Million Downloads Of Google Maps For iOS Since Wednesday

Google Maps has become the top app in the App Store in a little over three hours after its release Wednesday, with over 10 million downloads as iOS users seek to dump their Apple Maps.

"We're excited for the positive reception of Google Maps for iPhone around the world," said Jeff Huber, SVP of geo and commerce at Google.

The much awaited launch was well received by iOS users who had quickly found that the new Apple Maps that came with iOS 6 was not working as deisgned.

Samsung May Release New Flexible Screen On Smartphone In 2013

Samsung is reportedly getting to release a new screen type hoping to get the edge on other smartphone rivals with a flexible OLED screen.

Samsung Announces it Sold 30 Million Galaxy S III In Five Months

Samsung has announced that it has sold 30 million Galaxy S III smartphones in the first 150 days of its release. This beats sales figures for Samsung's previous model, the Galaxy II, which sold 10 million in the same period.

Despite Samsung shipping more high-end smartphones overall of various models than any other smartphone makers, Apple still holds the title for the most sales of a single smartphone model.

Overall demand for high-end smartphones like the Galaxy III and the iPhone has seen record growth, as high as 46% a year in the United States, and 51% world wide.

Apple Announces It Sold 3 Million New iPads During Opening Weekend

Apple has announced that it has sold over 3 million of its newest iPad and iPads Mini's, which is more than was sold during opening weekend of the previous iPad, or iPad 3 as some have called it.

Apple did not break down the numbers between the iPad fourth edition and the iPad mini.

News of this surpassed analyst expectation of between 1 and 1.5 million.

Apple launched the iPad mini to get back a segment of the market in the 8 inch tablet size dominated by Amazon and Google and to keep ahead of Microsoft's new 'Surface' tablet.

Apple Stock Drops After Announcement Of Top Executive Shakeup

Apple's stock has dropped below $600 a share following an announcement by Apple of changes at the top of the company.

Apple announced that Scott Forstall and John Browett are both leaving the company. Forstall was the head of Apple's iOS and once thought to be a successor to Steve Jobs. Browett was head of the retail division for just a few months.

The news came out on Monday as Hurricane Sandy was slamming into New Jersey and New York and the stock market was closed.
