United Airlines Replacing Seat With Slimmer Design To Add More Capacity On Planes

United Airlines has announced that it will be replacing all seats on all of their Airbus aircraft with new slimmer Recaro seats. The move will allow United to squeeze another row of seat onto its Airbus planes.

According to United, the new seating won't come at the expense of less leg room, though passengers on other airlines that have already done the same thing have complained the new seats are indeed new, but less comfortable.

PeoplExpress plans to launch service from Pittsburgh making the city its home and is awaiting government approval. This is a revival of the former airline's name from 1981 to 1987 when it was the fifth largest carrier in the U.S. and largest out of Pittsburgh. It is being launched as a no frills LCC airline using routes to places like West Palm Beach and other east coast destinations.

However encouraging, the almost upstart airline still needs to raise capital and buy airplanes, get trained and hire a workforce before anyone goes anywhere on PeoplExpress.

Southwest Airlines cutting flights out of Tampa International Airport

Southwest Airlines is cutting its weekday flights out of Tampa International Airport by 12. The low cost carrier is going to discontinue its direct routes to Milwaukee and Jacksonville. The cuts to Jacksonville means there will no longer be any service from Tampa to Jacksonville. The changes are reflective of scheduling refinement the airline is doing after the acquisition of AirTran and the normal changes after peak summer travel. Even after the routes being cut Southwest will be the busiest Tampa Internationals busiest airline.

Airlines Raise Ticket Prices

Last week U.S. Airways raised its last minute walk up fare by $5-$10 dollars each way, and that was soon following by Continental, United, Delta and American. But at first no one was sure if it would stick unless Southwest raised fares also. Friday Southwest raised its fares to match the increase by the others which meant the increase is not likely to be rolled back as is often the case when one airlines raises fare but others don't.
