NASA Announces New Partners In Effort To Resume Launches From U.S. Soil

NASA announced three new partnerships with three private companies in an effort to restart launches into space from U.S. soil.

The three private space companies are Sierra Nevada Corporation of Louisville, CO, Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) of Hawthorne, Calif., and The Boeing Company in Houston, Texas totaling more than $1.1 billion under the newly signed Space Act Agreements through the agency's Commercial Crew Integrated Capability (CCiCap) initiative.

SpaceX Dragon Capsule Undocks From ISS, Returning To Earth, Will Land In Pacific

The Dragon Capsule made by SpaceX has departed the International Space Station, ISS, and is on its way back to earth filled with ISS waste cargo along with special sensors that will help engineers make sure the internal atmosphere is suitable for humans. The capsule will splash down in the Pacific Ocean about 560 miles southwest of Los Angeles sometime between noon and 2:00pm eastern time.

SpaceX Succesfully Launches Falcon 9 Rocket To The ISS, Dragon Capsule To Dock In 5 Days

Cape Canaveral, Fla. -

SpaceX has become the first private company to successfully launch a rocket into space, as the Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral at 3:44a.m. SpaceX will now attempt to dock with the International Space Stations, ISS, which if successful, will be another first for a private company.

SpaceX had previously tried to launch but was aborted in the last half second by a computer warning of a small valve problem in one of the nine engines.
