Casey Anthony To Be In Bankruptcy Court Today In Tampa

Tampa, Fla. -

Casey Anthony is set to appear in a Tampa bankruptcy court today in an effort to have Zenaida Gonzalez and Roy Kronk's lawsuit against her dismissed.

Both are expected to also appear before judge Judge K. Rodney May, and are expected to argue that their lawsuits against Anthony for defamation of character should not be dismissed yet and to extend the deadline for the to challenge the dismissal.

Tampa Sinkhole Swallows Man In Bedroom While He Was Sleeping

Tampa, Fla. -

A Hillsborough County man is thought to be dead after a sinkhole opened up directly under his bed last night while he was sleeping. The sinkhole opened up under the house at 200 block of Faithway Drive in unincorporated Hillsborough County.

Fire/Rescue officals made several attempts to rescue the man but had to abandon their rescue attempts after they starting loosing equipment and the ground became more unstable around the area.

Nearby homes were evacuated, but so far the hole is located directly under the original home where it started.

SunPass Comes Out With App For iPhones

SunPass has released an app for iPhones to allow the 900,000 SunPass users statewide to access and manage their accounts. SunPass also said they intend to release an Android version down the road (no pun intended).

SunPass is the pre-paid transponder toll collection system that operated toll roads in Miami, Tampa, parts of Orlando and the Florida Turnpike.

"In an increasingly mobile society, it makes sense to offer our customers as many choices as possible to self-service their SunPass account," said Turnpike Executive Director Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti.

Hillsborough County Deputy Taken Hostage While Serving Eviction Notice

Tampa, Fla. -

A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in a hostage situation while serving an eviction notice at the Tudor Cay Condominiums in the 9100 block of Hillsborough Ave. W.

According to reports, the deputy was serving an eviction notice when the resident became upset and eventually trapped the deputy inside the condo. The deputy has since escaped and the resident has barricaded himself inside the condo.

Police have called in negotiators in an attempt to resolve the stand off peacefully.

Tampa Man Found Guilty of Ybor City Rape

Tampa, Fla. -

A jury in a Tampa courtroom has found 30-year-old Charles Newbold guilty of rape and was immediately sentenced to life in prison, plus 50 years for a burglary conviction.

Newbold was accused of raping a woman who live in Ybor City in her home, which was a converted bus.

Newbold has denied the charges, saying he had been "charmed" and said "She asked me if I wanted to go to her place."

Florida Gov Rick Scott Asks President Obama To Stop Impending Longshoreman Strike

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R), has asked president Obama to use his power to stop an impending Longshoreman strike set to begin in a couple days. If the strike happens, it will effectively close container shipping ports in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville, plus other ports from Houston to New York.

Tampa Man Walks Up To Police Car Saying He Just Killed Someone; Dead Body Found At University Oakwood Apartments

Tampa, Fla. -

Police in Tampa have arrested 49-year-old Carhlos Ruben Rivas after they report he approached a stopped police car and told the officer he had just killed someone nearby.

Police responded to the information and found a dead body in the 1200 block of East 113th Avenue at the University Oakwood Apartments. According to Tampa police, the body appears to have been murdered and arrested Rivas on murder and grand theft charges.

The deceased man's identify has not been released yet, no information about if he lived at the apartment or not.

U.S. Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Albuquerque After Windshield Cracks

Albuquerque, NM-

U.S. Airway flight 265 has diverted and landed in Albuquerque, NM (ABQ) after developing cracks on the wildshield. The Airbus A319 landed safely and none of the 119 passengers has injuries.

The flight originated in Tampa, FL (TPA) and was bound for Phoenix, AZ (PHX). An airline spokesperson said they are sending another plane to Albuquerque to pick up the stranded passengers and crew.

Republican National Convention Opens In Tampa Then Immediately Goes Into Recess

The Republican National Convention opened at 2:00pm today highlighting a debt clock that is counting the United States' debt as it accrues since the start of the convention.

Immediately after the opening, the convention went into recess due to the weather affects of Tropical Storm Isaac.
