Expressway Authority To Open New 429/414 Extension Saturday

Orlando, Fla. -

The OOCEA will open the new 429/414 extensions in northwest Orange County, paving the way for the eventual Wekivia project and giving metro Orlando a beltway finally.

The new sections will connect Plymouth-Sorrento Road and State Road 414 along with S.R. 429 between Highway 441 and S.R. 414.

The newest extensions opening tomorrow are part of the OOCEA (Orlando Orange County Express Authority) 2030 Master Plan.

New York City Subway Service To Resume Limited Service Today

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that NYC's metro subways, LIRR and other transportation services will resume today and tomorrow in a limited manner. Busses are already operating at full service. New York's subways, trains and buses were suspended due to Superstorm Sandy, many part of the subway system remain flooded and have yet to be examined by engineers to make sure they are safe and functional.

President Obama Signs Student Loan & Road Rebuilding Bill

President Obama signed into law new legislation that congress passed recently keeping federal student loans at 3.4% and authorizes $100 billion to be spent on roads, highways and mass transit projects over the next two years. The legislation passed congress with overwhelming bipartisan support after once failing along party lines previously as an attachment to a larger bill.

Union Pacific Frieght Train Derails In Chiaco Suburbs, Bridge Collaped

According to Union Pacific, one of its freight trains, traveling between Wyoming and Wisconsin, has derailed after a bridge collaped.

The incident happened near Northbrook, Illinois, in the northern Chicago Suburbs. The 3-engine, 138-car freight train was carrying coal when it derailed at 1:45pm earlier today (Wednesday). The coal was on route to a Wisconsin utility company.

The derailment happened on a line not used by commuter trains and area services were not affected significantly. Small fires were started in the area, which has substantial dry vegitation.

As the busy summer driving season approaches, gas prices are on their way down, making vacations more affordable. Oil speculators have been bailing out, talk of a coordinated release of strategic reserves, refineries coming back online and American military build up in the Persian Gulf to ensure continued oil supplies have all played a part.

SunRail to be connected with bus services

At the launch of SunRail today in Altamonte Springs officials announced that they will be working to connect more people to SunRail with bus service. In a ceremony today it was announced that there would be an increased effort to get riders to the Light Rail system which by its own admission is not close to many people. The largest bus system in Central Florida Lynx is in talks with talks with multiple cities to link SunRail to the bus system to allow for people who are not near a SunRail station easy access to one.

Train Crash in Germany Injures at Least 50, 3 Cars Derail

Berlin, Germany -

At least 50 people were injured when a regional train crashed and three of its cars derailed in Lauterbach after hitting a car on the tracks in eastern Germany. One of the cars tipped over on its side.

The train crashed into the car that was hit by another vehicle and pushed onto the tracks in Lauterbach, between Leipzig and Chemnitz, said federal police spokesman Torsten Henkel.

The driver of the car was able to get out of the car in time.
