10 More Islamist Arrested In UAE

At least 10 local Islamists have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates over the past several days as part of a widening crackdown on dissidents, activists said on Sunday as the UAE continues moving against them, stipping them of citizenship and jailing even more.

The arrests brought to at least 20 the number of dissidents, most of them Islamists, detained since July 15 when the Gulf Arab state said it was investigating a foreign-linked group planning "crimes against the security of the state".

U.S. Navy Ship Fires On A Boat In Persian Gulf; 1 Dead, 3 Injured

The U.S. navy is reporting that one of its re-supply ships, the USNS Rappahannock, was forced to open fire on a small boat that got to close to the ship, killing one and injuring three others. The incident happened about 10 miles from the Jebel Ali port, and 22 miles from Dubai. It is the world's largest man made port with 67 berths and extensive dry dock facilities.

Baby Discovered Hidden Inside Carry On Luggage; Parents Arrested At Airport

A couple have been charged child abuse and human smuggling after their 5-month-old boy was discovered packed into their carry on bags at the security screening checkpoint.

The Egyptian couple had arrived in Sharjah in the UAE but were not allowed to leave the airport because they lacked a visa for the infant boy. Two days later the father became impatient waiting for the Egyptian passport office to open and convinced his wife to hide the boy inside of their carry on bags and leave the UAE.
