Regional Air Carriers Closing Up Shop As Cost Sore And Revune Falls
Nearly 50% of all commercial flights flown in the U.S. domestic market are done by regional carriers like Comair, ExpressJet, Pinnacle, Colgan Air, SkyWest, Air Wisconsin, and American Eagle, serving almost 500 cities that only have air service from a regional carrier.
But this model is changing as the so called legacy carriers merged over the last few years and volatile fuel prices are consistently cited as a reason for reducing the now unprofitable regional carriers who operate 50 seats plane on behalf of their larger partners such as United, Delta, American and US Airways.
