US Airways Plane Lands At Newark Liberty International Airport With No Landing Gear

A US Airways plane landed at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey Saturday morning without its landing gear. The plane operated by Piedmont Airlines under the US Express banner was coming from Philadelphia.

The Turboprop plane carried three crew members and 31 passengers landed after an hour in a holding pattern while the crew attempted to solve the problem. After several attempt to get the gear down the decision was made to land the plane on its belly.

US Airways To Start New London Heathrow Service From Charlotte, NC

US Airways has reported that it has been awarded a landing slot at London Heathrow airport and will being non-stop service from its hub at Charlotte, NC to Heathrow using an Airbus A330 starting in march 2013.

"We are thrilled to make this announcement and look forward to starting service between Heathrow and Charlotte in March," said US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker. "This new service will augment our existing trans-Atlantic network and provide more choices for customers in markets up and down the east coast."

US Airways Flight Lands After Bomb Scare; Unknown Caller Played Hoax On Passenger

U.S. Airways flight 1276 en-route from Philadelphia to Dallas was forced to return and land in Philadelphia after a bomb scare was called in.

The FBI said an unknown called reported a specific passenger was carrying explosives, which in turn lead authorities to call the plane back and conduct a security sweep of the airplane and all of its passengers.

The suspect identified by the caller was taken into custody only for the FBI to later learn the whole incident was a hoax by the caller. The man taken into custody has since been released.

Regional Air Carriers Closing Up Shop As Cost Sore And Revune Falls

Nearly 50% of all commercial flights flown in the U.S. domestic market are done by regional carriers like Comair, ExpressJet, Pinnacle, Colgan Air, SkyWest, Air Wisconsin, and American Eagle, serving almost 500 cities that only have air service from a regional carrier.

But this model is changing as the so called legacy carriers merged over the last few years and volatile fuel prices are consistently cited as a reason for reducing the now unprofitable regional carriers who operate 50 seats plane on behalf of their larger partners such as United, Delta, American and US Airways.

US Airways Plane Gets Stuck In Rut At Regan National Airport Due To Heat

A US Airways flight from Reagan National to Charleston, SC became stuck on the tarmac as the surface began to sink in the blistering heat being experienced across much of the nation on Friday.

The plane's left rear landing gear sank into a rut as the pavement gave way to the 100 degree heat and immobilized the plane. The tug that usually pushes back the airplane was unable to free the plane.

The 35 passengers on board were taken off while a larger tug was brought in to pull the plane out of the rut and onto solid ground.

US Airways Approved For Codeshare With Croatia Airlines; Gains Access To Central Europe

US Airways was approved by the US Transportation Department and the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency to begin a new bilateral code-share agreement with Croatia Airlines that begins today.

As a result of the new agreement, US Airways will be able to offer passengers the ability to buy just one ticket which would include flight on Croatia Airlines, giving US Airways access to central Europe, and the same in reverse for Croatia Airlines.

Passengers on both airlines will be able to fly on the others' and receive mileage points with their own respective airline's program also.

US Airways To File With Antitrust Regulators For Its Proposed Merger With American Airlines

Speaking at the US Airways Group annual shareholder meeting in New York, CEO Doug Parker added another public push towards merging his airline with American Airlines by commenting that US Airways and American would create "an airline that can compete with anyone, that can be the best airline in the world."

As first reported by TFNJ back in January, US Airways is hoping to merge American Airlines which currently in bankruptcy protection. A hearing is scheduled for June 22 for American Airlines as it tries to have the collective bargaining agreements with its unions nullified.

US Airways Flight Diverts To Boston After Passenger Tries To Open Door

A US Airways flight from Portland Maine bound for Philadelphia had to divert to Boston after a male passenger tried to open the cabin door while the airplane was in flight.

Flight 3801 was operated by Air Wisconsin, a regional carrier for US Airways.

According to reports, 40 year old Michael Ensalaco of North Carolina attempted to open the door and had to be restrained by the flight attendant and other passengers.

American Airlines Labor Unions Say They Support US Airways Takeover Bid of Bankrupt Airline

US Airways has gained important support from American's labor unions for US Airways bid to take over American Airlines. In an effort to finally merge with someone, US Airways has been taking its bid to take over American, who is currently in bankruptcy, directly to American's creditors and investors.

US Airways is also close to gaining support from one of American's major creditors.

The unions say they support the takeover bid because in bankruptcy, American employees will likely get lower pay and benefits that US Airways is offering.

Southwest Airlines Raises Airfares; JetBlue, United, Delta, Virgin America Follow Suit

Southwest Airlines announce an airfare increase and JetBlue immediately followed suit. By the end of the day, US Airways, Delta, United, and Virgin America also matched the increase meaning the rise will likely stick.

Citing high fuel prices, Southwest said rates will rise between $4 and $10 bucks on most routes, though some may be more. Three time this year other airlines have tried to raise airfares only to retreat back when Southwest did not match them.

Rate increases at other airlines were similar though not exact.
