Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Has Died At Age 58

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has died at the age of 58 after suffering a long battle with cancer. He was suffering complication from his cancer and treatment with a severe lung infection.

He died Tuesday at 4:25pm and news of his death was announced by Vice-President, Nicolas Maduro, who Chavez previously stated in December as his preferred successor.

Chavez is most known in the United State for being an outspoken critic of the U.S. and American foreign policy.

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez Announces Third Cancer Surgery

President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez reported that he will undergo surgery to remove malignant cells in his pelvic region. This comes after he twice declared victory against cancer after receiving treatment in Cuba. Chavez did publically appoint Vice President Nicolas Maduro as his successor which is the first time an announcement like this has occurred.

This latest announcement came after Chavez spent three weeks in seclusion while having medical treatment in Cuba.

President Hugo Chavez Returns To Cuba For More Cancer Related Treatment

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has returned to Havana Cuba for more cancer related treatment according to the Cuban community party paper Granma.

Chavez has not been seen in public recently and in a letter, confirmed he was going to Cuba to more treatment.

According to reports, Chavez will undergo "hyperbaric oxygenation" - a method used to reduce bone decay caused by radiation therapy.

Chavez has had three operation to remove tumors in his pelvic area during several past trips to Cuba.

Analyst with oil futures are beginning to predict oil prices will rise as a result of oil drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico being shut down and evacuated and with the explosion of a major oil refinery in Venezuela, a country that exports to the U.S. and is part of OPEC.

Over 60 oil drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico have shut down production and are evacuating employees from the drilling platforms as Tropical Storm Isaac takes aim at New Orleans.

2 Arrested In Miami Beach Hotel In Famous Stolen Matisse Painting Worth $3 Million

Police and FBI agents have arrested two men trying to sell a stolen Matisee painting worth $3 million. The 1925 painting, “Odalisque in Red Pants" was stolen from a Venezuelan museum and replaced by a forgery and authorities here say the two suspects were trying to sell it from their Miami Beach Loews hotel room.

In a scene like the hit TV show "White Collar", the FBI set up a sting operation where the two attempted to sell the valuable painting to undercover agents. No word on who played Niel Caffery but the original painting was recovered.

Venezuela President Hugo Chavez Confirms He Has New Lesions

Venezuela President Hugo Chavez has confirmed news reports that new lesions, he previous had surgery in Cuba to remove a tumor and had declared himself cancer free.

The 56 year old leader is not expected to live more than a year according to some medical sources close to him the Daily Mail reports. It is believed that his cancer has spread from his colon and prostate gland to other parts of his body.

Chaves said he plans to undergo more surgery to remove the cancer and possibly undergo more chemotherapy.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he will undergo a third round of chemotherapy at his home in Venezuela, unlike the first two which were done in Cuba.

In June, Chavez underwent surgery in Havana, Cuba to have a baseball sized tumor removed and has been receiving treatment since then. He has been in office for 12 years and faces elections next year.
