Venus Transits Across Sun; Next Crossing Will Be 2117

In a rare astronomical event, Venus's path took it across the sun as it passes directly between the Earth and the Sun. This rare event which only happens ever 105 year won't happen again until December 11, 2117.

The picture above was provided to TFNJ by NASA and taken from NASA's Solar Dynamic Observatory, SDO, satellite, which was launched in 2012 for a five year mission to observe the sun.

The event is one of the rarest astronomical events in our solar system that is visible from Earth, only seven Venus transits have occurred since the invention of the telescope.

Venus To Make Rare Pass Between Sun And Earth June 5, 2012

The planet Venus will make a rare pass between the Earth and the Sun and will be visible worldwide on June 5, 2012. The event happens only twice every 120 years and this is the second passing, the last once was in 2004. It will also be the first time since the 1800's that it will be visible to all of North America.

As Venus transits the sun, it will appear as a black spot but will be a worldwide sensation according to NASA. The transit will begin at 3:09pm Pacific time and take nearly seven hours to make the pass, leaving the sun's glowing ball at about 9:45pm.

New Mayan Calendar Discovery Shows Beyond 2012; Hoax Or Will Earth Go On?

Archeologist discovered a new Mayan structure in 2010 located in Guatemala, but only recently were able to excavate the area after funding from National Geographic. The structure had long been filled in by dirt, helping to preserve the painted walls inside.
