Tornadoes Rip Across Oklahoma, Iowa, And Kansas

Residents in Oklahoma, Iowa, and Kansas are cleaning up after 28 tornadoes’ ravaged their states Sunday and early Monday. So far only one fatality reported in Pottawatomie County Oklahoma. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency with her state being hit hardest.

Iowa & Kansas received the least amount of damage as the tornadoes missed most populated areas. All three states are reporting large power outages with crews working to restore power as soon as possible.

Western Hemisphere Weather Today, 2 Systems Could Become Tropical Storms

Here's today's weather map for most of the Western Hemisphere.

There are two low pressure systems, one of which forecasters believe has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical storm and move across Central Florida this coming weekend.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 this year.

Flight Delays At Orlando International Due To Severe Storms

Orlando, Fla. -

Severe thunder storms have caused flight delays at Orlando International Airport. NWS radar indicated a line of severe storms crossing over the Orlando area prompting storm warnings for Osceola, Orange, Brevard, Seminole and Lake counties.

Flights inbound to Orlando are being put into holding patters, one over Leesburg, one over Melbourne and one over Daytona lasting up to 45 mins.

Departing flights are being held at the gates with delays up 45 minutes or more. Flights to JKF, EWR, LGA, PHL have delays lasting up to 1 hour 45 mins.

Lightening Knocks Out Both Runways, Forces Connecticut Airport To Halt All Flights In Or Out

Bradley International Airport in Connecticut was forced to halt all air traffic after lightening struck near the intersection of its two main runways knocking out landing lights and causing debris to be scattered across the runways.

Around 3:00pm today, a strong line of thunderstorms moved across the area when the incident happened, forcing incoming aircraft into a holding pattern or to divert and stopping all take-offs. A ground stop was in effect for departing aircraft bound for the airport that lasted about two and half hours.

Heat Wave And Drought Continue Across Most Of The Nation

The heat wave and drought continues across much of the nation, with more than 55% of the nation now in a drought. NOAA meteorologist say the weather effect known as La Nina is slowing weakening, which has been responsible for the heat and dry conditions. Experts say an mild El Nino will replace La Nina by mid September.

With the arrival of an El Nino, it will bring more storms, "and hopefully meaningful rainfall" says Illinois governor Pat Quinn who has already declared many Illinois counties a disaster, which clears the way for federal assistance.

Local Weather Predicts Godzilla And End of Sleeping Coyotes

Yes, the title is correct. Godzilla has been predicted to fend off a massive tidal wave according to CBS News 6 local affiliate in Richmond Virgina. Meteorologist Aaron Justus warned of volcanic eruptions and the end of sleeping coyotes among other topics delivered during his ridiculous forecast.

The forecast was never shown on air, but was put on the affiliate's website, and was in response to a parody on Fake NBC12 news.

Justus also warned the excessive heat will make people do weird and bizarre things somethings,... this is true according to medical doctors.

Tropical Storm Debbie Growing In Gulf Of Mexico

Tropical Storm Debbie is the fourth named storm in the Gulf of Mexico so far, in the 2012 hurricane season, making this year the busiest on record for June.

The National Hurricane Center, NHC, issued its most recent advisory at 5pm saying the storm was located at 26.2N, 87.6W and was moving north at 6mph. Debbie is expected to turn westward on Sunday afternoon and tropical storm warnings have been issued for parts of coastal Louisiana, from the mouth of the Pearl River westward to Morgan City.

Russian Weather Satellite Elektro-L Captures Highest Resolution Image Of Earth

The Russian weather satellite Elektro-L, or Электро-Л in Russian, has captured the highest resolution picture of earth ever taken so far from an altitude of 22,500 miles above earth as it sits in a geosynchronous orbit.

Until recently, Russia had to rely on US and European weather satellites for data in order to make weather forecasts for its residents. In January of 2011, Russia launched the Elektro-L weather satellite, giving Russia its own images of science and meteorology.

More Than 2,300 Birds Found Dead On Chile's Coast

Chilean officials report that more than 2,300 birds have been found dead so far along its coastline. Officials say the bird were found with broken wings and bruising and say they believe this is a result of the birds becoming entangled with fishing nets.

The Pacific Ocean off the coast of South American has been especially warm as a result of El Nino causing sardines and other surface fish to stay south. This in turn has resulted in birds that normally migrate to stay during the busy fishing season.

"Life Threatening" Storms Continue To Hit Central States, NWS Predicts Hail, Severe Storms, High Winds and Tornadoes

The NWS has maintained its "Life Threatening" storm warnings for much of the plains states of Oklahoma and Kansas, as well as parts of Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Illinois for Saturday.

The worst conditions were projected for late Saturday afternoon between Oklahoma City and Salina, Kan., but other areas also could see severe storms with baseball-sized hail and winds of up to 70 mph, forecasters said.

The warning issued Friday covers parts of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.
