Acer's Small Screen Windows 8 Tablet Leaked; uses Full Windows 8 OS

Amazon accidentally leaked images of Acer's new Small Screen Windows 8 tablet on its website after what is being reported as "confusion" over product management and sales.

Following Acer's release announcement of several new Tablets, Amazon posted for sale the Iconia W3-810-1600, except that model was not among those mentioned in Acer's release announcement.

It is a 1.1 pound tablet with an 8.1 inch screen and an x86 processor that will on a full Windows 8 OS, unlike current Windows tablets which run on Windows RT.

Microsoft To Launch Windows 8 On Oct 26 Along With Surface Tablet

Save the date... Says Microsoft in an announcement during its recent annual sales meeting that it will indeed be launching its newest Windows 8 operating system on October 26, and its new Surface Tablet will also be launched in conjunction with the event.

Microsoft also said its new Windows Phone 8 will launch on or about Oct 26 also.

Microsoft's Steven Sinofsky, president of Windows also said Windows 8 will work with touch-screen devices, mice, keyboard and styluses too.

Until now, the company had not given any exact dates, instead saying sometime in October.

Verizon Publicly Backs Windows Smartphones Saying Third Ecosystem Is Needed

Verizon CFO Fran Shammo has come out saying the carrier will throw its support behind Windows smartphones with the release of the first LTE Windows phone for Verizon later this year. Shammo said the market is dominated by Apple and Android and that a third platform will spur greater competition and reduce prices.

The smartphone Verizon is banking by Microsoft is known only by its code name "Appolo" for now.

Smartphones Now Outnumber Basic Phones

According to new research out, smartphones now outnumber basic mobile phones says the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

The study showed that the number of smartphone users have grown across all age and demographics, but was especially strong in the 18-35 age group and those making $70,000 or more a year.
