Boeing Conducts Final 787 Dreamliner Test Flight In Hopes Of FAA Approval And Returning To The Skies

Boeing has conducted a final test flight of the 787 Dreamliner to determine the air worthiness of a new battery fix to the lithium-ion batteries used on the new airplane and hopes to gain FAA approval to return the airplane to the skies.

“The purpose of the test is to demonstrate that the new system performs as intended during normal and non-normal flight conditions,” said Boeing spokesman Marc Birtel.

The LOT Polish owned airplane took off and landed at Boeing's Paine Field in Everett, Washington. it flew for two hours with engineers and FAA officials on board.

Man Arrested For Carrying Loaded Gun Through TSA Chckpoint

Orlando, Fla. -

Police have arrested 40-year-old Adolfo Requena of Colorado after a loaded gun was discovered in his bag as he went thought the TSA security checkpoint.

According to police, the gun was a 9mm handgun.

Requena was booked into the Orange County Jail, but has since been released on bail.

2 Swim To Safety After Plane Lands In Water

Overnight an airplane sank in Lake Disston near the Volusia-Flagler county line in central Florida when a plane attempted to land using its water floats when at least one of them did not respond properly and the plane began to sink, according to investigators on the scene of the incident.

Two people managed to swim to safety, the pilot and passenger, Allan and Kathrine Burrows of Port Orange.

Officials say they do not yet know what caused the sinking and they need to recover the plane before they can give more information.

Lufthansa Preparing For Impending Strike By Cancelling Flights

The ver.di union which represents Lufthansa workers has called for one day strikes ahead of a full strike set to begin on Thursday, March 21.

The union is demanding pay increases of 5.2% and job guarantees while the airline says it must maintain a pay freeze through 2015 in order to cut cost and remain competitive.

Plane Crash In Punta Gorda FL Injures Several

There has been a plane crash in Punta Gorda, Florida overnight and officials do not know yet how it happened.

FAA officials are on the scene of the crash in which a single engine experimental plane being flown by 72-year-old Charles D. Williams.

William and two other men were on board the a plane when it crashed, all suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The plane came down after it reportedly encountered engine problems.

TSA Announced New Rules For Carry-on Items; What,... Some Don't Make Sense?

John Pistole, head of the TSA, has announced that the TSA will be making a change to the rules for what a passenger can carry onto an airplane.

Although you are still banned from bringing a small box cutter onto the plane, you can now have a pocket knife with a blade no more than 2.36 inches long and a half an inch wide. And that's a good thing, because small box cutters with blades of 1 inch are far more deadly and dangerous than passengers wielding knives around with a huge blade of 2.36 inches long.

Long Lines At TSA Checkpoints As Sequestration Takes Effect

Long lines have been reported at several TSA security checkpoints around the country as the effects of sequestration kick in.

We are already seeing the effects," Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano said, citing TSA lines that are “150 to 200 percent as long as we would normally expect.”

The TSA has denied overtime, effective immediately, and instituted a hiring freeze. Both have seen immediate affects as lines in some airports are nor 150%-200% longer than normal, with wait times surpassing 1 hour in some cases.

Boeing Hopes To Propose 787 Dreamliner Repairs Friday, Airlines Are Demanding Heavy Compensation

Boeing officials have announced that they are set to propose a series of repairs to its beleaguered 787 Dreamliner on Friday to the FAA.

Under the proposal, Boeing will change the insulation between the lithium-ion battery cells to prevent fires and meltdowns that have grounded the entire 787 fleet worldwide.

Raymond Corner, Boeing's Commercial Airplane Division Chief, will pitch the repair proposal to Michael Huerta of the FAA.

Airlines Are Parking Planes In Orlando To Wait Out New England Storm

Orlando, Fla. -

As airlines cancelled flights and kept aircraft out of the New England area because of a strong winter storm and blizzard conditions, United and Delta have been moving aircraft into Orlando to wait out the storm. Today's high in Orlando was 80 and mostly sunny.

While many planes won't actually sit in Orlando the entire time of the winter storm, more planes will move through Orlando for extended stops and move traffic through Orlando in some cases.

Airbus Said To be Considering Dropping Lithium-Ion Batteries In Wake Of 787 Investigation

Executives with Airbus have stated that discussion about replacing lithium-ion batteries in its newest plane in development, the A350, is being looked at, but stressed that no decision will be made immediately.

As the investigation continues into Boeing's 787 Dreamliner and its lithium-ion battery problem, Airbus said they are monitoring the NTSB investigation closely. The new A350 also uses the lithium-ion battery.
