Final Iowa Count: Rick Santorum Beats Mitt Romney By 34 Votes

Following the final counts from the Iowa caucus, Rick Santorum is to be certified by the state as the winner over Mitt Romney by 34 votes.

Previously, Mitt Romney thought he had won by 8 votes and declared himself the winner. Now that he is in fact not, Romney said he considers them both co-winners and that it was a "virtual tie."

The results of a few precincts were still missing as of Thursday morning and have been declared lost.

Obama Rejects Fast-Track Approval Of Keystone XL Proposed Pipeline Saying Alternative Route Should Be Explored

President Obama has rejected a fast-track approval of Keystone XL Energy's proposed new oil pipeline that would run through the sandhills of Nebraska and the Ogallala aquifer saying an alternative route should be explored.

The requirement to either give fast-track approval or deny it with an explanation to congress was required as part of the last budget deal in Washington.

As expected, the denial has set off bitter partisan fights with republicans saying Obama is killing 20,000 American jobs and putting the nations energy at risk.

House To Approve Short Term Payroll Tax Cut After Initially Saying No

The House of Representatives is set to approve the short term two month payroll tax cut that they initially said no to with House Speaker John Boehner calling it "kicking the can down the road." The bill has already passed in the Senate.

The House initially send the bill to a sub-committee, which in effect would have killed the bill without have to vote on it because payroll tax cuts were set to expire Dec 31st if no bill reached the president and in a sub-committee the bill would not have passed on time.

Senate Votes On Obama's Call To Extend Payroll Tax Cuts On A 2 month Temporary Measure

The Senate has voted to extend the payroll tax cuts for Americans for two months giving them time to put together a complete package later. President Obama has been calling on congress to extend the payroll tax cuts before they leave Washington for the Christmas and New Year holiday and a two month extension was not exactly what he wanted.

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich was criticized Saturday for calling the Palestinians "invented" people, and for labeling Palestinians ignorant and racist. He said these comments while doing an interview with The Jewish Channel, a cable TV station in the United States.

U.S. Supreme Court To Intervene In Texas Redistricting Plans

The U.S. Supreme Court decided late Friday to hear a case brought by Texas Republicans on the state's plan for redistricting, something done in every state after a census to allocate voting districts and calculate a state's representation in Congress.

Texas, like many other states, is undergoing redistricting, but the state's legislature is Republican-controlled and the new maps put forward by lower courts could diminish the voting power of Latinos and Blacks, according to some analysts.

Herman Cain Drops Out Of Presidential Race, Ending Campaign Due To Continued Sexual Misconduct

As TFNJ reported previously, Herman Cain has dropped out of the 2012 race for the Republican nomination.

Citing a Cain adviser that did not want to be named, Herman Cain had been debating how to drop out but save face. Today in Georgia, outside what was supposed to be his new Georgia campaign headquarters, he along with his wife in attendance, said he was ending his bid, saying family relations were more important. Cain continued to deny any sexual misconduct.

U.S. House of Representatives Tries to Cut $200 Million Presidental Campaign Funding from Taxpayers

The U.S. House of Representatives has taken up a bill sponsored by Republicans that would end the $200 million presidential campaign funding.

The fund was set up 35 years ago as a way for candidates to support their campaigns by avoiding the appearance of special interests controlling elections following the Watergate scandal and hopefully to limit corruption. It also was meant as a way for someone without private funding to participate in running for the office.

Herman Cain To Quit Presidential Race Amid New Accusations of Another Affair Says Adviser

Presidential hopeful Herman Cain is said to be quitting his race for the White House amid yet another report of sexual scandals and affairs. His campaign team has only said he is "reassessing" his campaign, but an adviser close to Cain who asked not to be named said they are debating how to quit without Cain looking humiliated.

Just today another accusation of an affair broke from an Atlanta woman who even went on Fox News and showed detailed phone and text message records.
