Three police officers in Chicago were wounded by gunfire on Monday night during a chase that left the suspect dead.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the officers were investigating possible narcotics activity at around 9:40 p.m. on Chicago’s Westside.
The three officers approached two suspects in a dark gangway between two buildings. One of the suspects fled the scene causing a chase to ensue.
The suspect who fled then shot at police officers. One of the officers returned fire and shot the attacker who died at the scene.
One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the one, one was shot in the foot, while the third officer was shot in the chest possibly striking a bullet-proof vest. All three of the officers were treated at a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police have not released the names of the suspects or the officers. All three of the officers were veterans of the Chicago Police Department with between 10-12 years of experience.
The officers are being put on administrative duties for the next 30 days per police policy while the shooting is investigated.
